Good send off today - standing ovation that lasted several minutes. No real rationale behind the sub, so I assume Jay did it to give us the chance to say goodbye to DSY - if so, nice one, Jay. Yeah - I thought right from the start that he'd be subbed in the last few minutes just to get that accolade - definitely the right thing to do. Couldn't quite work out the words to that song coming from the Town End but well done you guys. In the KM he made some comment about the fact that it would be weird, but that professional footballers play against their mates all the time. Which is all true, but to be frank even if he does slot back into the Woking side; there is absolutely ZERO chance he would be in the team against us now - not even on the bench! Like the thought though (however fanciful) that we might have him back this season, that would be fantastic.

I think Delano might just feature against us on the 25th.I don't think it would fair of Gary Hill to get all the inside info on all the strengths and weaknesses of all the Stones squad from Delano and then not pick him.

VERY unlikely I think. Sure Delano might be 'totally professional' and provide the insight into the Stones; if he's fully back into the fold (rather than being one books but not really wanted.) But to play him would be too bizarre (and pretty unfair on him - If what he's said is true). Would you really play someone in a relegation battle against a side he wants to stay up, so he can go play for them next year? And how much (unreasonable) pressure would there be on the player to know that if he fluffs an important tackle or misses an important chance that the assumption will be that he was a "double agent"? Even if he makes it back into the woking side - IMHO it's impossible he can play against us.

Odd use of words in this report, how can we 'kind of made an offer ' ?? It looks like they might have been sounding out Woking to see what the response might be. From that it doesn't look like they think it's likely.

Interesting to see where this goes. Been reading the thread on Delano over on the Woking forum and they clearly don't rate him at all over there, whilst accepting he's made a difference for us and therefore probably shouldn't be allowed at The Gallagher for the rest of this season. I guess sometimes we all underestimate the importance of a player's mental well-being; he is happy playing for us, he feels wanted and that has spurred him to produce football they didn't get from him at Woking.
We've obviously made what could best be described as a cheeky offer, given the circumstances - I can't see them accepting it but there has to be a strong chance we'll see him back here next season. If he goes back to Woking and they don't want to play him, I reckon they'll loan him out to a National South club or something until the end of the season, as the Cards fans seem to think they can't afford the wages of their squad players.

Difficult choice on the money. I'm sure the owners have stretched the budget to breaking point to bring in better quality players that have seen us move back up the table. But we are not a wealthy club who can spend silly money on a player who will be a free agent in a few weeks. and I doubt Woking are in a position to turn down a few quid for a player they don't want who can walk away very soon. Hopefully common sense will prevail on both sides and he will soon be playing for a club who want him.

Depends what you class as 'silly money' when you are trying to stay in a league.

Can't be nice for Delano, wants to stay, instead having to return to woking where it doesn't look like he wants to be

I'd say £500 per week is probably lower end for National League ?? I think teams in Ryman League would be paying somewhere around that sort of figure ?

I'd also say that by putting in an offer for DSY, whatever the figure may be, it probably sways his thinking far more towards us than it would be towards the Cards (if it wasn't already !) as he'll have absolutely no doubts about where he's most wanted. Hardly the encouragement to put in a good performance for Woking, IF selected.
So, in my mind we can't lose ...... either (a) we don't get him now but in the meantime he'll probably be looking at a future with us once his contract expires at Woking or (b) they decide to let him go now and accept our offer ......
