Eastleigh and Ebbsfleet next. Absolutely not. Gravesend is a sustainably run business. The FA don't just let anyone take these clubs over.

Laslett, and every Margate fan, would I am sure cringe if they re-read the comments in the last few sentences of that article. The next Brighton or Southampton? As the forum's unofficial demographics man, I will give you the stats: POPULATION FIGURES FROM LAST OFFICIAL CENSUS Brighton: 281,076 Southampton: 253,651 Margate: 57,008 Total population of Thanet: 134,186 I suppose it's gloating to say "we told you so" but let's face it, we did, didn't we? It was always going to end in tears, just like the Rodney Marsh - Neville Southall thing at Ashford all those years ago. Big men, big ideas, no lasting end product. Another complete miscalculation by a businessman who didn't do his homework properly. It will be Ebbsfleet's turn next. To be fair, we don't know what's going to happen. Too soon to say it'll end in tears. Even if the money has gone they will cut their cloth and regroup at a level they can afford. There is no suggestion that the club is in danger of going bust. Personally I wish them well and hope they can overcome present difficulties. I agree with your sentiments, I hope they sort it out and most importantly, learn how to run within their means.

Fat rats leaving the leaking ship. Back to the Ryman South, where they belong.
I almost feel for the Gate fans, but let's face it, we've been through far worse, and don't act the complete arse now the good times have come. Unlike some.

I still think the real reason for the £bbsfleet owner taking control was the amusement park which is taking forever to get off the ground.

Ebbsfleet will be fine
Their Kuwaiti owner is one of the main people involved in The Paramount Theme Park.....they only need to worry if it falls through

I think the gravesend bloke has something to do with that theme park that probably won't get planning permission due to the lack of major infrastructure to get to it

Haven't they started on the new multi-million pound stand at Gravesend & Northfleet?
They are also currently buying up local businesses as going concerns at very generous prices, rather than having to persuade them to relocate.
There is too much money behind the project for it not to proceed.

To be fair to Margate and gravesend fans you do have to enjoy the ride while you can. The biggest problem these clubs have (Dover too) is that it is so hard to grow your support. We are lucky because we have a history of strong support, even in the dark days. I think people like Bob, like Dover Jim, just get frustrated in the end that they keep throwing their money at something and local people are not buying into their dream. Gravesend is slightly different because the Fleet are a pocket money project for the wealthy owners. Whether Gravesend ever fill their new stand is another question.

Haven't they started on the new multi-million pound stand at Gravesend & Northfleet? Looking at the plans the ground is on prime estate right by the entrance to the theme park it'll be worth millions if and when the park happens. it'll end up a hotel. short term loss now to keep the locals happy. they'll get gravesend to a certain level then they'll "have to" relocate out of town. owners to end up with the hotel money the fleet to end up with a shitty out of town ground a la sittingbourne and central park. if this is the aim then why spend £3 million on a new stand?

In the end it will probably all hinge on the fabled 'Garden City.' I suppose Ebbsfleet's best chance would be if they could become at the very least, one of the best National League clubs and pick up a new support base from that development, if it happens. The owner's involvement with the club is all about winning local hearts and minds, in order to support his other projects in the area. Nothing wrong with that provided, if required, he has an exit strategy that won't leave the club in the smelly stuff in the future. At least if they get the new stand built that will be tangible progress for them whatever happens, but I totally agree about the fan base. They are in a geographical area where it is very, very easy to support clubs like Charlton and Crystal Palace without having to drive far to see a high standard of football.

I think it will be a generation before the garden city has a significant effect on Ebbsfleet's fan base, if at all. People who relocated there will already have established allegiances so they will be dependent on the next generation growing up, and even then, some of them will do what most youngsters do and follow the same team as their parents. As for seeing a high standard of football at Charlton, I think that is only coming from away teams at the moment

Ebbsleet is Arsenal area. HighSpeed to St Pancras then a quick tube to Holloway Rd/Arsenal station.
Will be interesting to see the West Ham effect moving into the Olympic Stadium has on them, especially if they make good on their price promises...
But yeah just shows how easy it is to watch league footy for people in Gravesend.
