I agree with senna. We did not play badly. We should have added a second maybe even a third. We just ran scared when Sweeney got sent off. He does not have rose tinted spectacles. He just understands that you may not have necessarily played badly just because you lost.

nws obviously shared the same pair of spectacles today. If that was a good performance, I would hate to see a bad one. Please don't tell me you have seen worse this season! We got the result we deserved today.

I saw an infinitely worse performance at Basingstoke away. However, in your simplistic world I guess that rated as good because we won. At least my spectacles are rose tinted rather than painted black

Did the assistant flag for it? The referee doesn't give a 2nd look in that video, and instead follows the ball. Bit harsh. It doesn't look like he even made contact with the other player. His boot is clearly in front of the other player's leg, there is no visible moment of contact and no reaction from either player. But, did he get the yellow for the 'foul' or for talking back to the ref? Did the assistant give it or not?

Mr NWS. I had the same view of our performance when we were winning.

you are either very easily pleased or Daveu has infected you with his positive thinking or you are applying for the club PR job

Lots of people missing the point. It wasnt the Sweeney sending off that cost us, it was the loss of Coyle going off injured, his experience would have ensured that we concentrated to the end and not had the defensive lapses at the end that cost us the game. Hopefully he wont be out long. This is an important point, Mike. Coyle is a key player and seeing him limp round the terrace in the second half was a very unwelcome sight. Until the sending off we looked comfortable for the win but the mentality of both sides completely changed after. They sensed they could get something and we became strangely scared to play the passing game that had got us in front. Contrast this to the leniency shown by the referee towards the challenges on Driver by the number 10 (one down by the corner flag and one near the halfway line) which were cynical and yet unpunished by anything more than a free kick. It was strange double standards. In reality we lost this game because we did not put them away when we were on top and then we retreated like scared children after the sending off. Some quality points from NWS in the above post. We conceded goal # 2 because Driver had been persistently kicked & was too knackered & couldn't cut out the cross. Also, don't underestimate the effect of the wind. IMHO none of our front 6 played well, even Healy couldn't pass it to a Stone ( became a laughing stock amongst the H & W support in the stand ). We were shite & H & W really wanted it - good luck to them, they ought to stay up with that level of commitment & skill.

But, did he get the yellow for the 'foul' or for talking back to the ref? Did the assistant give it or not? Yes, 100%. And to say there was no reaction from either player is typical of what I've read on this thread from people who weren't there.

Coyle is a key player and seeing him limp round the terrace in the second half was a very unwelcome sight. If Coyle has a medial knee ligament injury ( as per the OS ) that's a serious blow - could be seasons end for our key defender.

Bad news if so.
Still, at least it gave a chance to sing the Parry song. Unbelievable that was.

so nws, you don't think that was a poor performance today you are either very easily pleased or Daveu has infected you with his positive thinking or you are applying for the club PR job Not at all nick. We were not appalling. We could have been better but we were not appalling. Even someone on their website has recognised that we were in control of the game until the sending off. Where we were appalling was our capitulation in belief and yardage after the sending off. Up until then they had been limited to very little despite us losing Coyle. In respect of your invitation to apply for the club PR job I will respectfully suggest that you are being drawn into the world of prem-style support that seems to be infecting things. Every time we lose it is the worst performance/worst ref etc etc there has ever been. It really wasn't that bad and while we could play better we just lost on the day thanks to poor finishing, a weak referee and opponents that belied their position in the table.
