the advertising glow is a distraction we do not need at this moment in time

I saw one advert for industrial doors, and wondered who on earth is going to buy one based on an advert at a football match. I'm a little light sensitive so may have been the only one whose retinas were burning, but you could use that thing to guide jumbo jets to land on the pitch. Always thought the same with "Rainham steel"

I've been thinking about getting my driveway done for quite a while. Might get gallaghers to come and do the groundwork for it

I very much doubt we're buying the thing. I presume it is being run by a company who will sell the advertising on it? At a time when we need to save every spare penny to develop the ground if we get promoted, I would find it hard to believe we'd even consider blowing a load of cash on something we clearly don't need. You say 'fortunately' it's not down to me, Dave, well I presume in that case you think it would be a good use of a serious amount of money to buy that thing when we're faced with a 1.5 million pound bill to bring the stadium capacity up to 4,000. We will have to disagree on that one I'm afraid. I have been running my own (successful) businesses for the last twelve years so I do have some idea what I'm talking about. I mean that if the Terry and Oliver decide to install a scoreboard then they will be doing for the right commercial reasons rather than the half baked notions of somebody who seems to think they know all about the clubs finances when in fact they know no more than any other supporter.

How come you can state that as a fact then say that supporters know nothing about the club's finances?

Thought the floodlights were a little dull today.
Could have used the extra scoreboard glow.

How come you can state that as a fact then say that supporters know nothing about the club's finances? The club's finances are in the public domain. Also, the directors have publicly stated how much they believe it will cost to upgrade the stadium. This is not guesswork Dave, anyone can read the accounts on the 'Company Check' website. It is not unreasonable for me as a supporter, given what we do know, to have the opinion that spending money on an expensive scoreboard that may take quite a while to pay for itself, isn't the best use of club funds at the present time. I am allowed that opinion. If it is not shared by Terry and Oliver then so be it. As it happens nobody seems to like the darned thing and a good portion of supporters can't see it anyway so I doubt they will choose to keep it.

I doubt that future income projections, sponsorship deals etc are in the public domain. We don't know for example if someone has come forward to sponsor a scoreboard, or even pay for one outright. The club would be foolish to announce something like that until it is all signed and sealed. As you say, we only know what is in the public domain which is basically existing or past performance. Personally I don't understand why people don't like the scoreboard. Admittedly the trial one was somewhat overstated and in the wrong position, but a good well sited scoreboard would, in my opinion, be an attractive addition to the ground if we can afford it. Sometimes in life it's OK to do things because you want to rather than because you need to.

So now you are saying that we don't know what is not in the public domain. Previously you were telling us that something would be done for the right commercial reasons. Those two statements seem very conflicting. I do agree that it is OK to do things because you want to. In fact, I saw similar arguments when Fred Story erected a statue of Hugh McIlmoyle outside of Brunton Park.

I ACTUALLY SAID: "So now you are saying we do not know what is not in the public domain" THIS WAS BASED ON YOUR STATEMENT "We can only know what is in the public domain" My statement is perfectly logical given that if we can ONLY know what is in the public domain we cannot thus know what is not in the public domain. Another example of you posting something aggressive and insulting and being utterly, utterly wrong.
