What's confusing me is that the website states the photo is from 1949, but the Scotsman Stand, which was built pre-war isn't there!

It doesnt look like anything is built there. Has to be taken earlier surely - otherwise there must have been a lot of work done during fifties.

Judging by the the Cox houses built in Buckland Lane, (I believe) and London Rd and that there are not many of them, I'd say late 20's early 30's?

Just registered on this site so I could have a closer look at the photo, but there are no images in that area! Obviously doing something wrong - but what?

I'd say this photo was well pre-war. Look at the lack of traffic on the London Road, for instance. And the railway line cutting is entirely devoid of trees (compare with Google satellite photo of the same spot today). It's unlikely that they would have cut all the trees down that thoroughly, so presumably they can't have grown at the time this photo was taken.
But, as the Maidstone East line was built in the 1870s, thick tree cover should have been present by the first World War, never mind the second!
My gut feeling, based on similar photos from the same time, is that this was taken fairly soon after WW1, certainly no later than the 30s.

I think that picture is cropped from a larger image of the St Peter's area. If it is, I still can't find it! Although I have just found a photo of where we used to live, so now I know what was there before the flats were built. I've been looking for something like that for nearly 20 years!
