Finally found another photo of the old ground, although you have to zoom in to find it (top left hand corner), so the quality is pretty grainy by the time you can see much - www.britainfromabove.org.uk/image/epw009219. This one is dated 1923 and there is no Grace Avenue estate. So, assuming this date is correct, the one posted at the top of this thread is late 20s at the earliest. One thing that interested me was that both photos show the Athletic Ground as considerably bigger than it was when I first started watching MUFC back in the 80s. Where the Mormon church now stands was once part of the Athletic Ground, so presumably a part of the ground was sold to the CLDS at some point. anyone know when this was? Was it one of Jim Thompson's early fund-raising schemes, or did it pre-date his time? Before the ground was owned by MUFC, I think it was council property, so I imagine there would have been a bit of a fuss at council owned (or ex-council owned) sports facilities being sold off. But we didn't move here until 79, so presumably this was before my time. Anyone throw an light on all this?

There is another pic on there that shows the ground. (Acorn Wharf picture) and thats dated 1923. The houses are not there so its some time after that. Pity there arent more from the same area.

A two page thread on some ploughed up field in Maidstone and not a single post by Trolley. Standards are slipping.

Funny how you can see where the Gallagher is now in that shot and that its the land of our new home that has the footy goals on it

The old army football ground, I think. I can remember it still having goalposts up to a few years ago - although I never saw any games played on it (or even any people!).

Ignore them, Trolley. I'm sure your left foot showed true grace.....as you ran the line

Don't be silly NWS, Trolley would never run a line, he hates strikers so they would never be on side!
