Apparently, it is aimed at cynical fouls and verbal abuse of officials.
Fine in theory, but if it ends up as part of the VAR remit, then it could take a committee (and several hours, days even) to come up with a decision - especially when players have a lawyer pitchside to argue their case.

Sin bins will never work in football like they do in Rugby simply because 10v9 outfield players is too much of an advantage compared to 15v14. When a player gets binned it’ll just be sit back with everyone behind the ball for 10 minutes. I dread to think how little time the ball will actually be in play for. Football is too much reliant on its natural ebb and flow, introducing this ruins that completely.

Just another example of how they’re ruining the game. If you’re gonna sin bin them for 10 minutes might as well just make it a straight red. Any player stupid enough to argue with refs when it’s a sending off offence will soon find himself without a club.

So what happens if 5 players all surround the ref protesting? Does he sin bin all 5 in which case the game cannot continue with 6 players on the field or does he just pick one of the five and then run the risk of a discrimination charge by that player. This could soon get nasty or messy.

Pretty spot on that. Officials already have the required sanctions. They just need to use them. Foul or abusive language is a red card offence whether directed at an official or another player. Dissent is already a yellow card offence. If the refs applied the sanctions correctly players would soon learn to respect the boundaries, or at least keep their thoughts to themselves. The only rule change I would make would be that any caution for dissent would carry an automatic one match suspension. |

Reading the Non league paper it would seem that refs cannot be bothered with the sin bin and rarely use it.

Rugby Union has been showing the way for years, with only the captain allowed to talk to the ref and any arguing with decisions punishable by moving the free kick ten yards forward.
A mixture of this and suggestions above should be more than enough without sin bins.
