Good point. Unless a team has a reputation for causing violence I would like to see segregation removed. I suspect that there are not many of the idiots that really want a fight but they feel Billy Big Bollocks if they can hurl insults knowing they are protected by a barrier and the stewards. Alternatively have 3 areas. One for peaceful home fans, one for peaceful away fans and a third for those that wish to risk their remaining brain cell by confronting others of a similar ilk. If the football is boring we would have an alternative entertainment to watch. I don't remember there being segregation at the London Road ground even for the big FA Cup games. I stood at Critics Corner. I remember one cup game when at the whistle the away fans charged across the pitch towards us from the railway end and we all made for the exit. I was too big to duck under the barrier and and got caught in the crush with one leg over it. Does anyone remember which team we were playing? Cambridge? Yep - it was them

Fwiw I think we’d have fewer incidents without segregation: though it’s often done at the request of the police whose knowledge and expertise of policing football leaves a lot to be desired. The only game I can really remember with crowd trouble and non segregated was the Wealdstone game at home In 13/14.
I would personally go 0 segregated and if any of our idiot children are brave enough to give it large without the protection of a barrier, let them find out the consequences.

Yesterday at Salisbury v Poole Town ,which was unsegregated,it all kicked off behind the goal with both sets of supporters mingling . The blame is being levelled at drunken teenagers many of whom were under the legal drinking age. This is a scene that is happening all across the country,we are not alone with these problems.

Weren't there problems with Woking, which led to segregation. Worked well. We had problems with Woking last season

The annoying thing about all of this and it being dragged across FB with argument and counter argument is that is gives our fans a bad name.
Ultimately if those 50 or so idiots (the ones whose only pastime is to provoke) were not in the ground all of this would be moot. They are wanna be hooligans who just want to get a bit of Afro out if their system and it is tarnishing it for the rest of the support. They obviously add atmosphere but when they grow up they’ll regret this. They’re only doing it because they are backed by hundreds of fellow fans and that the away fans can’t get hold of them.
If they weren’t here we could be not segregated and it would be fine most of the time. But they can’t be trusted.

Ah forgot about that one. Think it was the Weymouth game after NL relegation but they’re the only two incidents that I can think of at the Gallagher. And that lead to permanent segregation reintroduced which if I recall was some classic bed wetting from out health and safety officer. Not sure what the solution is sadly.

Remember the days when the Horsham lardy boys turned up dressed as monks in the Town end That first season back really was brilliant wasn’t it. Simpler times all round but the general atmosphere around the place was just so different - everyone felt so lucky and grateful to be there

Braintree recently showed that even opening the barrier doesn’t improve things. As it was the same unpleasant atmosphere both sides, even though the streetfighters had the opportunity to actually meet. Reconfigure the Town End to cope with the two or three problem games per year but also to be open for all the rest, and remove the monstrosity of a barrier. This is how the Elvis End celebrated goals until very recently. Now there are 100 teen boys running straight to the barrier. It’s so depressing; the bigger and stronger the barrier becomes, the worse the problems created.

View AttachmentOr how about simply banning the trouble makers, including anyone who shouts abuse at opposition fans. Why would you call someone a wanker, or tell them to f**k off just because they support a different club. And don’t try to tell me it’s just banter. It clearly isn’t.

Well everyone will get banned for abusing the ref, as EVERYONE will say someting against the ref. Not strictly true. I often question decisions but never abuse them, unless accusing them of bias counts.
