I think jdl suggestions have a lot of merit even if he stands accused of muddled thinking ! What a cheek, given the degree of self justification and contribution towards the unsatisfactory segregation of the Genco today. Intractable problem ? Hardly. But I fear nothing will get done

I would be wary about accusing others of muddled thinking.
The problems of today were all forseeable but were they inevitable ?

I think most fair minded supporters will applaud the club for how it has improved facilities over the years. There is so much to like and appreciate. The Genco stand is great but there comes the problem. Granting so much viewing space to away support who invariably have far more room per individual than the packed in sardines (Stones supporters) on the other side of the stand. Then so much acreage to the segregation barrier itself which looks such an ugly scab on the Gallagher landscape and deprives supporters of excellent views of matches. Are jdl's ideas really so muddled ? Probably not thought through in every detail but why should they be ? He's not the stadium designer. For sure infrastructure changes bring associated costs, probably plenty, but if its not addressed now, it possibly wont ever be sorted. No recriminations are necessary over whats happened and why in the past. Just a bit of positive thinking and problem resolution please. Like some others I'm not too hopeful.

I think the best solution is to have 3 successive relegations back to the South Eastern Counties League and then it won't be so crowded because they'll all be watching Chatham Town.

Give the away fans the riverside. Keep the 3 other stands for the home fans. Why should we give up the better parts. Look at the shit we get when we go away

Can't imagine a derby game with Chatham Town who attracted a crowd of 3,000 last night.

This would be brilliant, and surely this can be done without a big outlay of cash? They would have enough room in the town end and some standing area around the side of the pitch. The exit route just needs a fence and then its done. Move around some of the temp/mobile food/shop bits and its complete. We get the whole Genco, and the 2 sets of potential trouble making yoof would be over 100 yards apart so there wouldnt be any trouble. How can this be a BAD idea

Gillingham fans in the Genco sponsored hooligan section next season? View AttachmentGills 'fans' using Chatham as a proxy for their bitterness? What could possibly go wrong?

I don't know why daveu seems so convinced 'it can't be done'. This is not exactly rocket science. How many years ago did Mankind walk on the Moon ? Problems are only solutions waiting to happen with a bit of positve thinking. All I'm saying is it cannot be an intractable or impossible dilemma to resolve. Feeks like somebody is doubling down on previous mistakes. Cannot bear the thought of next season starting with the same pigs ear approach to segregation. We really shouldnt be having this debate at all. The Genco was never designed to have seperate sets of supporters lined up against each other with a wide 'no-go' area down the middle. You couldn't make it up. I’ve never said it can’t be done. I just find it inconceivable that the club hasn’t looked into it. If they haven’t done it I’m sure there are very good reasons. I just wish they’d make a statement saying why, although I imagine there are plenty of people who would refuse to believe it.
