Lost 3-2 and deservedly so. Hopeless at the back, useless in midfield and almost non existent up front. St Albans wanted it more than us. We can't win them all but I feel a little disappointed with the performance.I didn't enjoy the whole away day as St Albans is card only for everything and I only had cash. Another ground to put on my list to avoid in the futre🤬

Probably as dangerous we have looked going forward. They looked dangerous too. Quite an open game. We could have had a few more goals for sure but on balance I think a draw would have been right. I beg to differ our midfield battled well for the ball then did f**k all with it . We should have scored more but then they should have been 2-0 up before they scored.Amantchi blew a one on one that 90%of forwards would have buried and our free kicks toward the end were really badly taken. Oh and as a professional club should we not have an away kit with numbers fir everyone.

A day that started so well went down the toilet pretty conclusively in the end.
They pressured us a lot for the first 20 minutes and we withstood it pretty well. Until we didn't - and the whole back four went AWOL. But, before we had time to dwell on that, two quick goals and we're in the lead and in control.
But we couldn't add to it. And gradually St Albans worked their way back into the game, and we handed them another two defence-free goals...
And then it was kick and rush, desperate substitutions, all the energy that was missing from earlier in the game - and none of the result. Try as we might, we couldn't score. Amantchi hit the bar and managed to conclusively f**k up a one on one with a goalie half his size. But, other than that, that was pretty much it - having retaken the lead, St Albans held on to it.
Three points thrown away, away day spoilt.
We are still a good bet for the playoffs, but we're also still a long way from looking like a champion team. Or, at times, just a team.

Er...this is the politics, pubs and trains section. Can you please put this meaningless thread in the correct place next time. Regards ADMIN (that's not really admin) If I complained to admin I'd get a dyslexic one and and a hotline to Idi Amin. I'm similar. I'm Idiot Admin

Bad day at the office. But there were good points - and a great quiz question from one of our superfans; “is this the only time Hoddle, Rush and Fowler scored in a single game?” - I have to admit I don’t know but suspect I’ll burn some midnight oil trying to find out.
Otherwise Rush was very impressive upfront and it was great to see him on the scoresheet. Harry was on too late to tuck one away but got very, very close - and arriving at the ground today we got the warmest, friendliest reception of the season so far. The St Albans stadium is not worthy of the name but the food bars are some of the best. This is the first away game where we felt welcome, as we should - but very rarely do.

It certainly was a lovely club to visit - very friendly, food/drink outlets everywhere, plenty of (free!) seats if you wanted them, lots of good, old-fashioned concrete terracing for those who wanted to stand, and a surprising amount under cover. Very close to the station and the city centre, lots of pubs, and, generally, a really nice old-school, non-league vibe. And very easy to get to by train.
What's not to like? Well, seeing your team completely undone by what looked like someone else's under-23 side, for a start.
Any comments on here that portray this game as a close-run thing, where we deserved to win, but were just unlucky, are way off the mark. We were the Billy Big Bollocks visitors, and they were the little club, just waiting to do their bit to help us claim our rightful place of 2nd in the league. Only it didn't go according to that script at all - they were the better organised, the harder working, and, quite frankly, the more talented team. They played like a team, and thoroughly deserved their win.
The highlights are up already, if you doubt this. And, remember they are just the 'highlights', we don't look too bad - but that's because you're not watching the other 90 minutes, where we huffed and puffed to achieve nothing and were comprehensively outplayed.
George has somehow got to knock this talented bunch of players into a functioning team before it's too late. OK, we're still 5th, but that's largely because results around us have gone in our favour recently. And we're only 2 points off second place, with a game in hand over several clubs - but the top half of the table is still incredibly tight, only 6 points separate 2nd and 12th. We are actually closer to 17th than we are to 1st...

The highlights do indeed make it look fairly even, with maybe a draw being the fair result. Good to see Rush score and looks like Levi was a bit unlucky not to get at least one, but maybe our injury list and three games in eight days got the better of us? If the latter, then between now and the New Year could be a problem as we are playing Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, with the FA cup the middle of these, then the FAT the week after. Not bothered about being nine points off first place, but the table is certainly closing up, so wins against the likes of Havant and Truro could be important should our fixture list become ever more congested. Did say at the start of the season would be happy with good cup runs and strong home form. Just the latter that is missing at the moment - though that is hardly the team's fault. Three home games on the bounce now though and winning them all would be rather good, methinks.

From this moment on, preparing for the FA Cup is top priority.

Spoke to a few St Albans fans while in line for a tea at half time who said the writing was on the wall: they had 10 players injured, were playing a team of kids and mentioned that Jeffers wasn't playing / not the player he was after a falling out with the manager. They predicted an easy win for Maidstone.
Yep. I didn't agree with them and I hate to have been right.
Very poor quality 2nd half. Thought Liam Sole was our only bright spark and he came off too early for me. Could have been different if Levis chances went in but wasn't meant to be.
Always enjoy St Albans. Nice City, ground close to the station, decent ground and friendly fans.

No point in trying to sugar-coat the pill.
Yesterday was a poor performance by the team, where we looked a mid table outfit at best.
St Albans were there for the taking but we were way short of where we needed to be.
Most of our results recently and there have been plenty of wins, have been by the odd goal, with Stones being marginally better than the opposition.
Not exciting attacking football, outplaying teams and oozing quality.
Not even daveu would claim that.
Just well organised, well motivated, good character, hard to beat, etc.
Yesterday doesn't change anything we didn't know.
Unless George can get more out of the individual talents of players, Stones will be in the mix for a play-off place, but won't set the football World alight.
What we have is decent enough, but a spoonful or 2 more would be handy.
