I'm not a fan of the new, wishy-washy, home shirt, but it doesn't look too bad with black shorts and socks.
And I quite like our 'away' strip - not brilliant, but we've had worse, and it looks good against the more run-of-the-mill strips usually worn by the opposition.
So, why did we play in all 'yellow' on Saturday??
Were we a PL side (FB fans orgasm en masse at the the thought!), I could understand it - the more strips, the more overpriced shite you can sell. But I don't think the club shop makes a lot of money from yellow shorts and socks!
Also, technically, the blue and white strip is our 'change' kit, not our away one. It's there in case the side we're playing have a strip too much like our 'home' kit - otherwise, we should be playing all other games in black and amber (as we sometimes we do).
So, who decides which strip we wear, and why??

I believe that’s also true of goalkeepers. On Tuesday their keeper had a navy shirt with orange shorts and socks. I’m assuming his normal shorts and socks were too close a match to our black, and their second keeper’s kit is orange.

Cheers, Dave, I never realised the rule was that detailed. Explains a few weird strips over the years!

While I'm at it, are there any specific laws that cover goalkeeper's strips? and do referees and linos always have to wear black?

Depends on the level, at grass roots the keepers just have a different colour shirt to the other 20 players. At our level and upwards as I said earlier the mustn’t clash with any part of the kit of the other players on the pitch including the other keeper and the officials.
Below the efl referees always wear black and teams aren’t allowed black or very dark shirts. In the premier league it seems teams can wear whatever colour they like and officials have to adapt accordingly, although they seem to be primarily yellow or pale green. Not sure about the efl.

I was very surprised on my first visit to Tannadice Park in 1968 to find that Dundee United's kit was all black. The ref wore a sand-coloured shirt. After a while, they changed to an orange based scheme.
