The table at post 1 has been updated following the Aveley game.
Well, well, well. They say it's a funny old game and it's never over until it's over, and this pairing in a sense had it all. Stones had home advantage against a team that not only had done the league double over us, they had also kept clean sheets in both games, so when they went ahead, they must have thought that fate was smiling upon them once again. This Stones side however has been forged in the heat of battle under the gaze of the football watching nation and the experience of playing those cup games on live tv in front of comparatively huge crowds seems to have given us a new resilience when the chips are down.
Practically everyone was either super-optimistic (not on a jdl level obvs) and predicted the win, but daveu picked up the full five points to almost secure the title for this season by opening up an eight point lead at the top. Others securing five points were bear5, ade and Raymondo316. I also picked up five points to become the latest to join the centurion club just as it became a bit meh.
So on to Worthing we go. In the two games earlier in the season they produced two home wins (one each), ten goals (5 each), ten yellow cards (four for us), two red cards (one each), so probably not a quiet game ahead. Hopefully Bivesh will stay on the pitch for longer than the 33 minutes he managed last time. I didn't realise at the time - better things to worry about then clearly - but the referee who sent Bivesh off was the idiot assistant ref who elbowed that Liverpool player so at least with the PGMOL closing ranks he'll be safely out of the way in the PL again.
