The joys of getting old...
Now I have cataracts - having the first one done in three weeks time. Anyone else has this done?
I was OK with this at first - it would be great to be able to see properly again, and it's only a 'simple' op - in and out in two hours, etc, etc.
But then I read the booklet they give you!

Likewise. Best not to read the leaflets. Remember going to Sri Lanka a few years ago, which required multiple jabs. Among the possible side effects for these were blindness, stopping breathing and death. Not sure where the demarcation line is between the last two, but hey. And we had a fantastic holiday. So get the eyes done, read better, fleece the bookies even more and watch the black and amber is startling clarity.

Father in law had them done separately. No problems at all, just not allowed to drive on the day they're done. They commonly start to fog up in the first six months but once they've been laser clean that doesn't come back again.

Had my first one done today. It wasn't exactly the 'breeze' I had been led to expect, but neither was it particularly difficult. Mostly I would describe it as worrying (someone is literally cutting into your eye whilst you are awake!) and uncomfortable. And annoying - you can't see properly afterwards, it hurts (like you've got something in yor eye - which of course, you have) and you have to wear an eye protector thingy for the first day, which means you can't put your bloody glasses on!
But, if it results in my being able to see clearly again, then I would have been prepared to go through a lot worse to get that result. Although I suspect that I still won't be able to read the tiny names our players have on their backs...
One major problem of the day though was the utter shite state of public transport. Apart from just ONE bus a day (morning rush-hour), there are no longer ANY buses from West Malling station to Kings Hill. If you need a bus connection, you have to walk into West Malling and catch the hourly 72 - which, as it starts from Maidstone, you might as well have taken anyway. Of course, you could take a taxi from the station to Kings Hill, but, mysteriously, whichever taxi firm you choose, this very brief taxi ride always cost £10.
Today I was expecting the journey to cost precisely nothing, as I have a bus pass. But the bus was late arriving, so I had to run across town and get a train instead (and, of course, a bloody taxi), then the hospital people insisted I get a taxi to WM station! The upshot was the best part of 25 quid down the drain!

You obviously didn't do your homework. I assume you still live in Maidstone so the 72 should have been your obvious choice. As you went by train if you had waited just 9 minutes you could have caught the 151 from the station to King's Hill. You could have got the 71 to the Freemasons at Snodland and pick up the 151 there. If you are really feeling adventurous you could of got the fast 101 to Chatham and picked up the 151 at the start of its journey though this is only advisable if you are not in any hurry, so you spent £25 when you didn't have to never mind you can blame it on Brexit like you fo everything else.

It never occurred to me to blame it on Brexit. But, now you mention it... I did a lot of 'homework'! But never found the 151 - despite many searches along the lines of 'buses from Maidstone to KH'). The 123 that used to run regularly from WM station to KH, now only runs once a day, due to KCC cuts (or should that have an 'n' in it?) And the express service that Arriva use to run from Maidstone to KH, which is still all over the internet, I discovered (just in time) has also ceased due to KKK cuts. The 72 was the bus I was trying to get - it would have got me there with 2 minutes to spare (the earlier one would have been an hour and 15 minutes early!), but after 10 minutes, it hadn't turned up, so I had to go for the train instead. But to travel from a key office, service and housing development like KH to Maidstone (just 9km away), by public transport should be a darn sight easier than a worse than hourly bus service that takes an hour or more (and doesn't run late), or trying to find a bus that doesn't appear in 'M to KH' searches, or take 2 buses (and hope), or pay £25. Or, of course, you could just have a car and f**k up the world...

But, ignoring all that bollocks, the op itself has worked better than I expected - my right eye vision is now crystal clear, better than I ever remember it! It's still a bit bright, from the drops they give you, and the focus is a bit weird (making using reading glasses quite an adventure!), but it should soon settle down.
Unfortunately, I now realise just how bad the left eye is! My right eye was so bad that I hadn't really noticed I had cataracts in both eyes. But, now I'm able to see properly with my right, it's clear (!) that my left eye is bad too. All those months I spent trying to clean my glasses at games - convinced it was them that were the problem... But, whatever the football's like next season, at least I ought to be able to see it properly!

Well now you know about the 151 you could also have got the 7 to Tonbridge and bought me a coffee whilst waiting for the 77 to Kings Hill😁☕
