They probably just have loads of threads about it on their forum. And the manager no doubt reads all those posts and does what the fans tell him...

Because MyFootballClub style fans voting for who plays worked out so well at £bbsfleet

Chesterfield fans fretting about away tickets on their forum.
Why do we let the away club sell them instead of doing it directly online?

Swordy complained he was getting bored with our endless keeper debate.
He should try the Chesterfield forum, right bunch of jokers but no posts about keepers !

Our financial problem would be if fewer away fans travelled because their ticketing system discouraged purchases with endless questions. One would hope Chesterfield fans turning up on the day could pay to enter with their fellow fans instead of the home end. Not that I’d have any problem standing next to well behaved spireites.

Plenty of grumbles from Chesterfield supporters about ticket allocation
Really strange that the club is only selling them to season ticket holders.
Its a long way for their supporters to travel without being sure they can buy tickets.
Communication from their club is really poor (according to supporters)
Still with their team top of the league, they should still attract a very decent following.

It’s going to be one of our toughest challenges, but this is what promotion was all about. A proper ex Football League club with a big following, and us hopefully influencing the title outcome. It’s not exactly top of our win list, but let’s hope they are underestimating little old Maidstone, just like one or two other BELTs so far this season.

Chesterfield fans fretting about away tickets on their forum. Why do we let the away club sell them instead of doing it directly online? It's been the way of the world for a very long time - particularly with FL clubs. I can remember trying to buy away tickets to see the Charlton v Leeds play off final back in '87 and finding to my surprise that I had to apply to Leeds to get them. It made no sense at the time, but is obvious when you consider the reputation of some fans. Leeds operate a fairly tight - but not foolproof - system. The equally small (proportionally speaking) away allocations are issued first to away season ticket holders (generally charged at a premium), then they go to away loyalty, then home season ticket holders and then members. It has been impossible to go to Leeds away games (legally) without being in one of those groups for almost forty years. Leeds always sell out their away allocation, much to the delight of the League 1 chairmen during our two seasons there! I don't bother trying for Leeds away, the last time was in League 1 at MK Dons who of course have that larger capacity stadium, Leeds took 6500 official tickets, and as Leeds fans became apparent around the ground as each goal went in we probably added another 500 in on top of that as the stewards marched them around
