You do have to wonder at the logic of certain European countries. The UK has vaccinated three times more than the EU average, while not that long ago, they were complaining we weren't sharing the Oxford version and now they say they don't trust it. All vaccines have risks, for example the list when you have the malaria one includes things like possible blindness and stopping breathing - but we still take it, if required, because the alternative is (generally) far worse. If the EU don't want the Oxford vaccine, suggest we s Nd it to countries who will be grateful. Might change people's holiday plans come the summer though if Covid is still rife in Europe.

The EU vaccine situation is weird. For instance, Hungary appears to have opted out of the whole thing and are using a Chinese supplied vaccine instead. Inevitably, people are refusing to be vaccinated because they don't trust the Chinese!
The overall picture re the infection rate is also very confusing. Some countries seem to have it under control, whilst others seem to be in the thick of a really bad '2nd wave'. As Mr 6 says, it could be the infection/vaccination rate of the destination country that will dictate holiday plans this summer, rather than how many of us have been vaccinated.

You love them, you make your wife wear an Angela Merkel mask. Just admit it. What vehicle does Wim Diesel have? If you'd gone Sanna Marin with that...

Be careful on language. I think we have fully vaccinated less than the EU but are streets ahead on first vaccinations

It's a UK policy though, to prioritise first jabs and have a bigger gap between 1st and 2nd isn't it. More data than a Rothmans Football Yearbook on that site. Getting my 1st jab tomorrow... if I die of a bloodclot, put "kinell, didn't see that coming!" on the gravestone.

Some have suggested it is a stupid policy and we are a giant laboratory. I'm sure I read something suggesting we had got it right in terms of protection for the individual, as things stand. The big worry being put forward is that the longer time between vaccinations means mutations are more likely. That is disputed though.

Just read that Ursula Von der Leyden has criticised the UK for taking in vaccines from Europe, but not sending our Oxford Astra Zenica ones the other way. Last time I looked, they were mostly saying they didn't want it. Bit of a FFS moment, methinks.

I'm not sure if I ever followed up my 'just had my vaccine' post, but, although the jab was painless, I had a pretty sore arm for a few days (I suspect because they inject into the muscle?) and the day after mild-medium 'flu' symptoms - although it only lasted a day, and it was nothing like real flu. But I wouldn't plan anything important the next day, just in case. Not heard about my second jab yet, but my sister was given the date of her second when her first was booked, so it obviously varies from place to place.

You do know that Ursula secured brooms for the German army - when they were meant to have rifles.

According to the Telegraph (just a random google result on Ursula - my subscription has lapsed...):
"The WHO granted the AstraZeneca shot emergency use last month, widening access to the relatively inexpensive shot in low and middle income countries."
Thing is, The Who also sang "I hope I die before I get old" so they're possibly not the best authority on this.

Remainers ceased to be a thing in Jan 2020, of course
