The Under 15's played well ( apparently ) but lost 1 - 3 to a strong Cray side earlier today. What drew my attention was this tweet from the Cray 1st Team Manager, Tony Russell:
' Tony Russell @tonyrussell78 · 2h Replying to @officialwands , @kentyouthleague and @maidstoneunited A good number of players from this group will play for the 1st team if I am still around when they get to 16-17. Coached to play like the 1st team from under 7’s. '
What a brilliant attitude that is, how to motivate young players and give them a pathway to semi pro football. All club teams playing to the same style, what a revolutionary idea !

Tony Russell is a really interesting young coach / manager. Some great stuff here on his work at Cray: www.cray-wanderers.com/the-festive-thoughts-of-tony-russell/ ( esp towards the end ) Played ( I think ) for Greenwich Borough, who MUFC encountered in the Kent League from 2001 - 2006. One memorable mid week game at Bourne Park vs ' Borough ' played out in the pouring rain ended with a fine no holds barred fight on the pitch. Happy days .......
