Strictly speaking, we are several million pounds in debt, have just had a couple of disastrous seasons, and have signed a load of full time players with no prospect of bringing in enough (or any) money to pay them. But yes, other clubs are probably in a worse position than us. Not that 'strictly' really. Whilst, technically, 'we' owe T&O a few quid, there's no interest payments on the loans, so they are financially neutral (and, anyway, in reality it's T&O who owe themselves the money!). And we had one disastrous season, last season wasn't pretty, but we could still have ended up in the play-offs if it hadn't been truncated. And (hopefully!) we're not daft, and won't be paying most of our players if we don't play. So, we don't owe any money, we've only had one "disastrous" season, and it's unlikey that we'll be paying much out if the season (with crowds) doesn't go ahead. It could be better, admittedly, but it could easily be a darn sight worse. But, yes, many other clubs are in a far worse position than us. Not that that should be of no consequence to anyone on here. Remember where we were 25 years ago...

It could be better, admittedly, but it could easily be a darn sight worse. But, yes, many other clubs are in a far worse position than us. Not that that should be of no consequence to anyone on here. Remember where we were 25 years ago... It's always worth remembering that the large debt owed to Oliver and Terry is actually repayable by the ground holding company, and not the club itself. Maidstone United FC doesn't actually owe them anything. I know this sounds like a technicality but it's an important one. This multi company system was actually set up by PBB to protect the club itself - Oliver and Terry decided it was the way to go, so they kept it. This system ring fences the club from the debt. it also allows the directors to hold the value of their investment, i.e. the ground, as a separate asset. In theory they could step aside as directors of MUFC and let someone else take charge of the club without pulling out of their ground investment, i.e. they could retain ownership of the ground as it's a separate business. This would allow them to step back from running the club if they wanted to do so without the club having the financial burden of having to give them their millions back straight away - it also means new directors of MUFC could be brought in as shareholders without the complication of having to give them a share of the 'real estate' as part of their involvement. Further to this, they could potentially bring in a ground investor to help build a new stand e.g. without giving them any sort of directorship of the actual football club. You can see therefore, this works well in a multitude of ways. Obviously this does not solve the issue of the club potentially running up a nasty debt going forward due to our not generating income to pay for the running costs of the club (including wages). It is imperative that the government steps in to help sort this mess out.

Thanks, Jayser, very informative answer. Clever set-up too - pity we weren't set up that way in the 90s...

Just bought 2 tickets on Hendon's online ticketing system. Had to register an account first but pretty simple apart from that Tony, huge thanks for posting that up , have also just bought a ticket. A couple of thoughts: * no segregation ( not needed IMHO, Hendon a real bunch of proper fans from my recollection ). * refund in full promised if , bizarrely, it is ruled that Step 2 can't play in the cup ( even if drawn away ).

Saw they lost 4-0 yesterday but will be tough as our first proper game. Think we will have a 150 there.

www.wellingunited.com/fa-cup-ticket-update/Wonder if we'll release a similar statement as this would apply to us for sure. May be worth not wearing shirts / scarves / hats, etc on Saturday if you are going just in case this is being enforced...

Erm, see comments on other threads about people who don't think rules apply to them... Looks as if the highlight of my footballing year is going to be El Abingdonio in Hellenic League Division 1 East on 17 Oct. I'm a home fan, I think.

Well I'm off to see my sixth Tunbridge Wells game of the season tonight.. the rules currently make no sense. How does Covid know if the 600 people at hendon are home or away fans?

It makes no sense at all. 'Elite' or not, surely it should be based on where the club is and what the circumstances are in that area. If the rate is higher in one teams area, surely the fixture should be played at the safer venue between the two clubs, rather than some completely random rule based on a teams league.
Strange, especially seeing as fans have been allowed in at L1 and L2, as well as across Europe.

I think the FA might end up changing its mind looking at the backlash it is getting.
