www.fchd.info/MAIDSTOU.HTM - could spend all day on this site but I'm just a stats nerd. 1960 JDL celebrated his 50th birthday and we were a mid-table Isthmian side (along with St Albans, Dulwich and Oxford City) 1970 Sword 65 was just starting to grow a beard. We were a dreadful Isthmian side (along with St Albans, Wealdstone, Dulwich and Oxford City) but not as bad as Bromley. 1980 My last year at primary school... The first year of the Alliance Premier League! Finished below Weymouth and Gravesend but above Wealdstone and Bath. 1990 2nd year at Hull University for me. First year in Div 4 for the Stones. 30 years ago yesterday we drew at home to Peterborough. www.footballsite.co.uk/Statistics/Seasons/1989-90/ClubResults/1989-90.MaidstoneUnited.html 2000 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Maidstone_United_F.C._seasons came 3rd in the Kent County League Premier. nws, Sword, Bryan Reed and Trolley walked to every single match. 2010 3rd of 4 fairly dismal years in the Ryman Premier. Dartford, Wealdstone, Tonbridge and Billericay in same division. New ground was still just a dream...

I remember playing away to Norton sports and walking to and fro the ground from Teynham train station, a round trip of about 7 miles.

The Norton Sports away game was the only time I saw us play in the County League. It was so dire I never went again until we got in the Kent League but then hardly missed a match.

Just to emphasise the state the club was in then, just over 10 years ago: Home v Canvey Island ( Ryman Prem 28.11.2009 ) @ Homelands, Lost 0 - 3 Att: 301, Team: Turner, Paul, Darlington, O'Donnovan, Hawkins, Parkinson, Edge, Saunders, Pinnock, Hockton, Barnes. Sitting 14th in the league, Dartford & Hasting running away with it … Ah, Homelands …..

The epic multiple FA Cup replays of 1980/81 and 1987/88 with ten games against Kettering, Gills and Kidderminster before beating each of them. Mark Beeney (goalkeeper who subsequently played for Brighton and Leeds) dislocating both elbows at the very end as Kidderminster flooded forward desperately looking for an equaliser at the end. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntwgO4X19_s

Legends. Legends on both sides as Kiddy had Casey,Tuohy and Davies. What I wouldnt give to have players of that class today I remember the 3rd game at Aggborough when it was down to around -5°c and I quite literally froze my bollocks off because I had split my trousers underneath.

Pah. A dog peed all down my leg at Dagenham once and when I went to move I discovered I was frozen to the ground!

It doesn't strike anyone as odd that there was a dog at a football match?!
This was Conference, not Mote Park!
