Happy birtday Maidstone prison you are officially 200 years old today. Work finally finshed on the buildings after 8 years and £209,000 costs on this day 1819. The first prisoners including women arrived the first week in March of the same year. I always thought that if you knocked all th buildings down you could build a nice stadium inside that wall.

There's a pitch already in there - 3G, by the looks of it - or more likely Astroturf, I suppose.
It used to be a sex offenders jail, and, living close to it, as I do, I used to be able to say (fairly truthfully) "my neighbours are paedophiles!".

It’s all foreign nationals now You are correct my toony pal and with the number of illegal immigrants coming to this country we may need a bigger prison, mind you having just watched the Toon beat Man City perhaps we can find a dorm for the Toon squad as they should be charged with daylight robbery or at least winning under false pretences.

As a little piece of trivia, the outside of the prison appeared in the 1988 feature length episode of MINDER, called AN OFFICER AND A CAR SALESMAN.
For some strange reason, there is a fake sign outside, that reads H. M. P SLOUGH
