Gates of under 500... Always puzzled me how they survived, let alone progressed. I've not been there since the 80s, presumably the ground has improved a lot since then? In those day you could get in for free by climbing over (or through) the back fence. One of the things I was looking forward to next season was going back there. Would be nice if they can give Wheeler the result he deserves on Saturday.

The ground is pretty much the same as back then the only difference is that Welling only own half of it the other half is owned by Erith and Belvedere, well I think that is still the case I am sure somebody will put me right if it isn't. Not a place to go early season as there always seem to 1000's of flying ants about.

Interesting that part of the problem is said to be the lack of progress in the FACup & FAT ( & the resulting lack of prizemoney ). Shows how important these comps are - same comment made by PBB just prior to Thamesmead folding …...

You should only include predictable income in your budget calculations. Including prize money is asking for trouble.

Welling are never likely to get big gates with Charlton just around the corner in fact I struggle to remember them ever getting 4figure crowds unless we were there of course and even then I am not sure we made 1000 very often. As Dave said relying on cup runs and prize money is a recipe for suicide no wonder they now have to slash the playing budget. Just think of the state we would now be in without our prize money as it seems we have even spent that and are still second bottom.
