My doctor thinks I may have "torn a muscle" in my shoulder (I am due an MRI to check exactly what has happened).
As this seems to be a common football injury, I wondered if anyone on here had any experience of this? How is it fixed, how long does it take, etc?
Googling it hasn't exactly reassured me so far!

I think if it's just a muscle tear, it should heal itself with rest and, if you can get it, a bit of physio - how long depends on how bad the tear is. If it's something more complex involving joints, tendons, ligaments etc. then there may be a more complex solution, possibly involving surgery. The MRI is definitely the best way of diagnosing it, you should definitely make sure you get one. When I had a similar injury I kept getting fobbed off, and eventually when the MRI diagnosed it I got the right treatment.

Trouble is, that arm/shoulder joint is mostly titanium these days, and, although it's designed to be "MRI friendly" (how?!), it's still metal, so it still buggers up the signal/image. If it is a tear, it's been a 5 or 6 weeks since I did it, and it only seems to be marginally better. Fingers crossed the MRI will reveal something straightforward that can be fixed easily. One thing I do not want is more bloody surgery.

I'd recommend at least six months away from keyboards.
It may not help your torn muscle but there are benefits for others.
