Arriving unbelievable early @ Enfield yesterday night we took refuge in the Toby on the Great Cambridge Road. Now nothing wrong with Toby Carvery at all, bright perky & attentive staff, nice deco, good khasi, keen prices, no issues at all. So all food themed around the Carvery, with a choice of four meats, served by a very porky chef ( as you'd expect ). So far so good, OK fatty pork mebbee not ideal, but anyway. The real clincher was that each meal came with a Yorkshire Pudding, not just a little pud but a f****g great thing which filled 1/2 of the plate. Huge great offering of fatty batter. People were going to the carvery, getting a piled up plate centred around said pud, clearing that & going back for more....
Just wrong, just very wrong.

This is potentially the greatest discussion title in history. However eating large Yorkshire puddings is not generally linked with being triangular shaped. Our pie and sweet huts cannot be much better.

Meat - expensive, batter - cheap. The bigger the YP, the bigger the margin...

Meat - expensive, batter - cheap. The bigger the YP, the bigger the margin... That's a really good point, a chap just in front of me in the line for food seemed to complain bitterly that he'd got so little meat, but as most of the conversation was in the charming local 'mockerney' dialect I couldn't register much of it .................

Had a meal at the weekend that had two slices of pork (with crackling) about half an inch thick, and a yorkshire that covered most of the plate, hidden under which were 5 roast potatoes, roast carrots and parsnips, peas and cabbage. Must have been close to 4000 calories and defeated even my legendary appetite.

Just to catch Porkystone up to current vogue knowledge. It isn't fat that is the weight causing problem it is sugar and crap carbohydrates. Obviously the batter part of your description of said Yorkshire puddings is the crap carbohydrates so you were not wholly wrong. When you eat more fat you tend to eat less because fat seems to satiate longer (hence why the Atkins diet worked). Last year I lost 3.5 stone by eating more fat and a very low amount of carbs.
So far today I have eaten an omelette with 2 eggs in it and cheese and salami on top. Miles better that a 'healthy' sandwich.
For weight purposes it is quite a simple equation. If what you eat matches calories you need to sustain you and the things you do then you will stay the same weight. If you eat too much you get fat, if you eat too little you lose weight. Some people will have you believe it is rocket science. It really ain't.

Happened to see Fred today and the diet seems to be working well. Apart from the side-effect that generates all the swearing...
