. Very good article! By coincidence I had a letter published in the Kent and Sussex Courier yesterday criticising the hypocrisy of football authorities who ban Joey Barton for gambling and at the same time happily accept sponsorship from bookmakers! I had tried the Telegraph and the NL Paper before but neither would print my letter, so you can draw your own conclusions!

As a non-gambler, and a cynic about the whole industry, I was most surprised to discover that there were professional gamblers, who were actually successful enough to beat the system and scare the bookies into effectively banning them.
After a life-time of listening to friends and colleagues going on bout gambling and how to beat the system (which none of them ever did) and having known a guy who ran a bookies (and privately referred to the punters as 'mugs' - "like taking candy from babies"), I was convinced that the industry had thing pretty much set up in their favour, so the successful 'profession' gambler was a myth.
