Blackmore for me, a guitarist who knows the difference between speed and feel. Gary Moore, Michael Schenker, Rory Gallahger and Stevie Ray Vaughan are up there too.

Surprised nobody's mentioned Jimmy Page. Randy Rhoads, Gary Moore and SRV are all up there as well (both literally and figuratively).

Michael Schenker has struggled in recent years with appearing on stage drunk and dropping lots of notes in recent years has he not? He was always famed for hardly ever dropping a note. EDIT: I just looked it up but tickets are £40. I guess listening to CDs will remain my only Schenker option

Oh Schenker is a brilliant guitarist. I have seen things on You Tube where he has been awful. He was the support act when I went to see the Scorpions in 2007 but I missed him because I got there late. Pah!

Would have said Clapton when I was younger, but recently watched a load of Hendrix videos and realised just how good he was - and just what we lost. 27, for Christ's sake - what sort of an age is that to die?

I'm there too. Haven't seen UFO since the late 70s so really looking forward to it. Also quite looking forward to Martin Turner and Focus on the Prog Stage
