only a pre season friendly but 0-5 was still a shade disappointing our midfield was swept aside in the first half with Paxman and Prestedge both looking well off the pace defence under pressure for much of the time, without much support, it was always going to leak goals didn't think more than a couple of the trialists on offer did much to further their prospects second half the intro of 'proper' full backs (Seth and Joe) did help the defending and Lokko looked solid as ever not sure who the guy was alongside him, but he had a decent match (not named in notes)
as always Stuart Lewis makes such a difference when he came on we didn't create a great deal up front but Sam-Yorke and Pigott both showed some quality also first sighting of Mitchell Dickinson, he looks fairly promising and our number 7 in the second half, presumably a trialist, looked very useful too, but who was he ? thought his name was Tyler something but could not see him in the team notes

Not the best but result means nothing. All about match fitness and looking at potential signings. Tyler looked good on the right side second half. Good crowd of about 800 for a friendly. Barnet fans were very complimentary about our ground.

Well, it was a friendly, so I guess you don't expect much, but that was pretty awful.
Barnet just scored at will and I don't think we troubled their keeper once. Players changed so often that I had no idea who half the team were most of the time (they even reused numbers!!) I've been looking forward to this game for weeks, but the only bit I enjoyed was the 'free' beer - and I couldn't even take that back to my seat... And the players weren't just not wearing squad numbers, they weren't even in the new strip!
I know friendlies don't mean much, but Barnet are only one division above us - it looked more like League v Ryman South. They were fit and fast, they ran at us in numbers, they scored FIVE times (and it could easily have been more), they stopped us getting anywhere near scoring with ease, and there wasn't a duff player in the entire squad they used today.
Oh, and just to make it even more bizarre, the police had to use considerable force to eject one 'fan'...

Let's not forget they've been training for a couple of weeks and we've only been back a week. First half trialists did themselves no favours, but as has been said the 7 in the second half was definitely worth another look. The second half keeper needs to work on his distribution, out the defence under pressure a few times but apart from that only made one real mistake. Don't think to much can be read into the game really and not sure what some of you were expecting.

Scrolling up, there's some logic to that final sentence.

A very good player by all accounts, had trials last season at Brentford

That game means nothing Warm up for the players Social for the supporters Anyone that reads anymore into it is an idiot! Today wasn't just a "pre-season friendlies mean nothing" game, it was a larruping by a team that looked far more than one division above us. And, with very few exceptions, our players looked very poor. Not saying it means anything, just, personally, it was very disappointing. But I've been watching pre-season games for over 35 years and I can't recall one as disappointing as this.

Yes it was only a pre season friendly, but it still leaves a nasty taste in your mouth every time we lose a game regardless of the importance. And what the hell was all that police activity for, if it really was for 1 person what the hell will happen if 100,s kicked off. Was it really needed.
