I watch ice hockey a lot and when the play is whistled dead the clock stops, a 60 minute game takes two hours to three hours to complete with most games being about 2hours 15minutes, with two 15 minute intervals as there are three periods, so no real time wasting.
Bring that into football and you could end up with games taking over 2 hours easily, the thing they will do next after this is when the clock is stopped bring in television reviews etc meaning as a fan you are watching even more delays in the game, it will kill the atmosphere tempo of the game even more than the players who currently time waste do. And then greed will come in and stoppages in play prolonged for TV breaks so they can play commercials on TV as that will bring in more money all the while the fans of the game continue to get screwed over but they don't mean much when TV money is being banded about.
There was also mention of this crazy idea of the captain being the only player allowed to talk to the ref, didn't we bring that into the game a few years back and it got ignored by Manchester United and they didn't get punished so everyone carried on ignoring it.
I'd much rather see rules brought in where players are heavily fined for feigning injury or the one that really gets my goat is when you see a player waving an imaginary card at the ref, there was talk by the premier league that they would suspend players who dove but Imo a better deterrent would be large fines hit the players in the wallets then they will start ceasing the pathetic histrionics, suspending them won't make one bit of difference because they'll still get paid, hit them in the wallet and they'll soon buck up.
Imo any player who waves his hand at the ref gesturing that an opponent should be booked, should be yellow carded and the free kick (as they are usually for a foul) reversed, players will soon stop doing it.
The saddest thing about football is the fact when we played in the ryman leagues the amateur players there conducted themselves on the pitch in a more professional manner than the so called professional players in the world's top league.

Glad to see my recommendation about goal kicks is being discussed.
Mr Worgan would perhaps be less pleased.
Don't like this 60 minute thing, but the timewasting has to be sorted.
