Idly checking to see if I'd imagined a press release a couple of years ago saying that Basingstoke were going full-time (Terry Brown had just become manager there after being sacked by Margate), I discovered a nightmare story - although a horribly familiar one. Club bought by rich businessman, existing ground declared "not good enough", plans drawn up for new out-of-town ground, money put into club by new owner, club do well and reach NLS play-offs, but following season wheels come off, high profile manager brought in, club crashes out of NLS, plans made to go full-time, local council rejects planned new stadium, owner decides to pull out and wants his money back, club sells old ground to meet debts, club agrees ground-sharing with lower-league club 30 miles away "whilst looking for site for new ground", fans protest, doom, gloom and worse predicted... How the f**k does this KEEP happening??? www.basingstokeobserver.co.uk/basingstoke-town-to-move-from-camrose-groundwww.basingstokegazette.co.uk/sport/15242439.GALLERY___Basingstoke_Town_v_Hitchin/#gallery11www.basingstokegazette.co.uk/news/15199912.Basingstoke_Town_FC_set_to_play_elsewhere_in_Hampshire/?ref=arbasingstoketownfc.freeforums.net/thread/1512/protest-help

Balance sheets haven't been audited either due to the size of it, skullduggery is a prospect and I feel sorry for the fans caught up in this. Gradually been purchasing 75% or more shares off the others involved, anyone seen 'Batman Begins'?

I wonder how many teams who still have grounds in the centre of their home towns will still be playing there in 10 or 20 years time - or possibly even still in existence?
Whatever we might think of PBB's legacy, there's no denying that, in finding the old Army parade ground, he gave us priceless asset for the future.

Has someone moved The Gallagher to the junction of Week Street and The High Street?

Basingstoke, did someone say Basingstoke. Can't have a thread about Basingstoke without this little gem.

Looking for a chalkboard to run my cat's claws over, just to get that tune(?) out of my head.
