New signing Bondz N'Gala has fallen through because he's played for too many clubs. New FIFA regulations mean a player can't play for more than two clubs in a season. He's already played for Barnet and Eastleigh.

The BBC are reporting it's fallen through, but I don't think that's right.
They've signed him, he has a contract, they just can't play him this season.

Not really sure, but I think they could have a case for terminating his contract on the grounds that he is unable to fulfil his side of it. Of course they may choose not to do that if they want him for next season.

Can't see they've got a case if they wanted to terminate. They're claiming the rules are "new" for this season, I'm pretty sure they're not that recent. No excuses for not knowing.

Wouldn't that be restraint of trade? I can think of people who have had several employers within a year. What would be the purpose of preventing free movement of labour?

Interesting information regarding contract law in this link. Not sure how it relates to professional football contracts, but a contract can be held to be frustrated if circumstances occur that make it impossible to fulfil. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frustration_in_English_law

They can, they just need to find a club stupid enough to sign a player who can't play.

N'Gala has now signed for Dover until the end of the season. Confusingly, although national league clubs count as professional when a player is signing for a FL club, it's OK for him to sign for another NL club. No wonder Gillingham (among others) fell foul of the regulations when they seem to be self contradictory.
