Anyway... I was up the Tonbridge road the other day (a rare treat for me these days) and noticed the Bower Inn looked in a lot better nick than I expected - as I thought it had been closed for some time. But then I noticed it had suspiciously un-publike curtains at the windows... I assume it IS closed? Only pub I've ever been in where the landlady was so plastered, she fell off her barstool... There was some sort of club behind the pub too at one time, but I'm not sure exactly where, or what it was. There are/were two buildings behind the pub, and it could have been either - one has been demolished now, but the other is still there. It's an odd bit of town - all sorts of strange businesses/buildings over the years, but, driving past down the Tonbridge Road, you'd probably never give it a second thought. The West Borough Club, next door, is a strange building itself - a lot of history around there. |
