I work with someone who says it was once THE goth youth busy weekend pub. Reckons you could buy a pint of slops from the sumps. Although, even by pre-21st century hygiene standards that doesn’t sound likely. Always full of aging rockers on Rambling Man/Maid of Stone weekend. |

I like the pig and have been going there for close to 20 years now, but the latest price increases mean I now go there a lot less.
Charging nearly 6 quid for a pint of Guinness is just way too much.

Trouble in town tonight. Arrived and noticed the Stag was busy. There’s always one lairy woman mouthing off. But this was different, with several and their partners. All my instincts said go elsewhere. Coming out of the jam night at the Market House, the High Street was shut off with multiple blue lights. My foreign taxi driver said it was travellers who had caused problems in Yalding the other night, and these people are ruining the nighttime economy. The diversion cost me an extra £4 on the fare.

Probably the same lot that were in The Old House at Home the other week. Went in to watch the Spurs game and a load of them were already pissed and falling over at 17.30. Half way through the second half, a fight breaks out in the bar. Landlady gets on the phone for security/Police so made my exit pronto.

I got thrown out of my local The Shant (now a housing estate, after a mysterious fire) once, because Terry had just finished his accountancy exams, and arrived from South London more than merry, and insisted on shouting "Eagles!" (being a Palace fan) continuously at the top of his voice.

Not a pub in Maidstone but our Mr Sennockian may be interested to know the pub in Sevenoaks that is named after him has been saved from closure as Wetherspoons have had a change of heart and are no longer selling it. This is good news as its one of the better Spoons in Kent.

Well I regard that as a sensible decision, especially sorting out the queue at the Armstrong Road lights. Recovering £5m. into the budget should be beneficial for us council tax payers too. But can The Wheatsheaf be viable again? Itz might be best to demolish it anyway (and erect a statue of George Elokobi?).

Anyway... I was up the Tonbridge road the other day (a rare treat for me these days) and noticed the Bower Inn looked in a lot better nick than I expected - as I thought it had been closed for some time.
But then I noticed it had suspiciously un-publike curtains at the windows... I assume it IS closed?
Only pub I've ever been in where the landlady was so plastered, she fell off her barstool...
