Steve Watson has resigned from Gateshead to take over at York city. Now that’s a strange one, i know he wasn’t happy with them going part time and maybe the new owners have started to withdraw a lot of the funding or York are offering him big money to take over

York probably gave him the assurances he wanted, plus they are due to get a new ground and have aspirations to climb the rankings again. With our new sponsorship of housing northern players for gratis, I wonder if we could tempt any? Tinkler and Armstrong would be top of my list

Now that’s a strange one, i know he wasn’t happy with them going part time and maybe the new owners have started to withdraw a lot of the funding or York are offering him big money to take over Going by what Gateshead fans are saying the new owners are not what they claimed to be. This was posted on the ''banter'' page Thank you for everything Steve Watson and Micky Cummins, two of the nicest guys you could ever meet, thank you for giving us a team that gives their all and football that is good to watch, all the best with York. People not turning up at Gateshead isn’t about the stadium or anything like that anymore, it’s about the monumental shitebags running this club. No morals about them at all.
Michael Di Stefano who the club claim has no involvement came out on Saturday and said it was the manager’s fault for financial difficulties… how in the f**king world?! It’s plain obvious that Ranjan Varghese is just the name on the documents because Joseph Cala failed a fit & proper test by the FA, Cala is the one making the decisions and is quite obviously the owner which leads us onto Michael Williams, nothing more than a puppet man for this lot. Richard Bennett has a lot to answer for selling the club to this lot.
I’m f**king done, I’m not renewing my season ticket next year and from next season I’m not going back to the International Stadium until this lot have gone. Still go to the away games but not a chance am I lining these fools pockets. Do a bit of groundhopping, can think of plenty of clubs who deserve my money more than the current regime of Gateshead FC.

Makes you appreciate Oliver Terry and Bill a bit more doesn’t it! At least our nightmare was a removable manager-owners don’t go so easily.

They're moaning about owners who've given them "football that is good to watch", and got them to the fringes of the play-offs, or just outside for the whole season? A club I had down as almost certain relegation candidates this season!
If only we had to put up with such 'shit'!

you have probably forgotten about him/never realised you had him in first place, but whilst i have not seen too much of him-Jordie Robins reminds me a bit of the harry phipps of 5 years ago, before he came to maidstone. You may be impressed by Robins when he comes back to you for next season-a big overworked cliche to say these young players have potential-but i would suggest that Robins really could 'make it '

Many people forget but Gateshead are another ex football league side trying to get there place back although they have yet to do it in 70 years. Gateshead should never have left the 4th division as they only finished 3rd from bottom and were not re-elcted losing out ,funnily enough, to 2 teams we gave recently played these being Oldham Athletic and Harlepools United.Peterbrough were the beneficiaries of Gateshead going down.

Always liked the Hamlet and Carew has been a great player for them but at risk of stating the obvious that was at IP NLS level so this list is not for us right now

Didn't we actually have Carew for a short while back in the Sittingbourne days? Or is that my (usual) false memory syndrome (which I'm hoping to apply to the Brexit farrago once it's all over).

Carew was outstanding when he was with us. Very languid, and complemented Ram Marwa in central midfield. Always looked to have time on the ball, a sign of class.

There are always exceptions, particularly younger, ambitious players looking to move up the pyramid, but am guessing the majority of players are happier being part timers in the lower leagues, with NLS their practical limit. Even here, the greater travelling will be too much for some. Many are capable of playing higher - they certainly have the skills - but don't want to commit to the full time training, or take a chance on what might be a very short career in football. We know this from some of our own favourites, notably Mills and Flisher of recent times. Hence it is also a risk for any club signing players from lower leagues to NLP. Most of those trying to make a footballing career are signed up early by league clubs and hope to get a chance that way, even though they may be third choice like our latest loan keeper. For me, this is the better option.
