I'm planning to show my wife and son the delights of Kent / E Sussex next Mon-Wed (half term) - but no real idea where to stay!
To visit:
Rye Bodiam Castle, nearby steam railway? Maidstone Ulcombe (my old school) and Kingswood (where I was born) T Wells (?)
Umm... as some of you will know I've not lived in Kent since I was 8 so my knowledge of the area is somewhat nil. There don't seem to be any decent sized towns E of T Wells. It goes against the grain to stay in Ashford. Any recommendations? Any other stuff a 6-year-old boy would like?
Cheers in advance...

Shame that I have only just seen this. I could have recommended a few seaside walks and debunked the silly myth (mostly held by cockneys and cockney wannabes) that Whitstable is so great. Canterbury might have been a consideration? As for coming to Herne Bay. Well you could have seen a free magic show today at the Kings Hall. I missed it because I was too busy running out of petrol in an attempt to go to Drusillas in Sussex. Still the Hop Farm (or Hopping Farm as it is rather sweetly called in our house) provided a nice substitute when we got going again.

Now that I know more about Herne Bay I will give it the attention I feel it is due.
OK.
Nothing interesting happens there.
