Real Ale is for blouse wearing blokes! Guiness, that's my drink of choice, although I am now moving on to a nice pint of Dublin Porter. Still, if weak 'real ale'floats your boat then who am I to try and persuade you otherwise Isn't Guinness responsible for terrible flatulence ??

Some claim so, but some also claim Newcastle Brown to have the same effect. Personally, I think it's just certain carriages on the Medway valley service

Bishops Finger is the best Shep beer by quite some distance, nice and hoppy and not too gassy. For something a bit darker I would recommend Theakston's Old Peculiar, and for a decent every day beer, Old Speckled. Hen or Sharpe's Doom Bar WHile I appreciate my name being linked with Doom Bar I am afraid it is Sharps. I guess the auto spell thing went wrong again. I remember Tinner's Ale being a nice one when I was in Cornwall.

Doom Bar was a no-brainer a few years ago (no offence, town enders), but it's become so mainstream it's the Fosters of Real Ales. White Horse (London Road) has it, but has Adnams Ghost Ship, which wins it for me now, can't beat many of the Adnams offerings to be fair. Never been a Harveys Best fan. Flowers Original is one of my all time favourites, but haven't seen it anywhere for years :-( I believe The Cherry Tree on the tonbridge road (shakey's local) still sells it, was my favourite when I lived near there :-)

He's just a wannabe ale man. Welcome to the fold lad.

Will have my spies check it out. Sadly it wasn't being served when I was in there a couple of weeks ago though

That would make sense, it was often sold in Whitbread pubs, who own Beefeaters. Thanks!

Red Fu cking Wine Delicious Refreshing Depth of flavour Spirit enhancing Mellowing Stress busting Red Wine You shunned this on Tuesday... Slight difference between enjoying a glass of wine of an evening & drinking a bottle at 2pm because it makes lunch & drink cheaper

In a former life I used to be a real ale man all the way. I still have the beard as a reminder. I would say the choices so far are extremely mainstream and am a little disappointed in the choices. The Barnsgate brewery near Ambleside produces some cracking ale. Surely Felinfoel's Double Dragon is the one ?

Nope, never wanted to drink 'ale'; and the Guiness thing came from being told by a rather burly barman in Galway that "no, you cannot have a pint of Fosters in my pub, you'll drink Guiness like everyone else"! I swear blind he probably had a shotgun and an IRA manual under the bar!! Oh, and pouring Guiness so it has a shamrock on the head is strictly for, and I quote, "those nancy-boy la-di-da fancy-dan wine bars in London"!
