I know one player does not make a team but Steve Watts return from injury showed exacty watt we had been missing. Steves leadership once he came on yesterday completely changed the team. Whilst the guys have given their all through the spell of injuries and suspension we certainly have missed his organising and leadership ability. Also the return of Fran Collin led to us creating more chances in the last twenty than we probably had in the rest of the game, his ability is not just about scoring but about holding the ball up and creating chances for others. I feel much more optimistic about the rest of the season now these two are back.

I generally tend to agree with you Mike although I found the swap of a centre-back for a centre back when we were one down and chasing the game a little strange (unless Sobers was injured). We escaped through a fine piece of individual play by Zac (although for some reason someone elsewhere has proclaimed that it was lucky).

I understand what you are saying about the change, however watty posed much more of a threat attacking at set pieces, I think he got on the end of most kicks, corners and lomg throws and really helped pile on the pressure.

Can't disagree with that, Mike.

Perhaps I should have carried on coaching and produced more Danny Lyes.

Adrian, Sobers was injured hence the substitution, I did think the same as you when Watt came on, but Jay confirmed on his post match interview that Sobers has been carrying an injury for a long time, i thought when Watt and Frannie were both on the pitch we looked a far better team, I still struggle to understand why people have such a downer on Jack, he is a bloody good player, the 2 goals he scored at Billericay on Tuesday night reinforced that.

Aaaah....that would explain it then. Personally, I don't have a problem with Jack because I too can see he is a decent player. However, on Saturday he tried to hit 60 yard passes non-stop. One or two a game is ok to try but not every time you get the ball. You have stood with me a few times now. How many times have you heard me getting at my own team vocally. At one point on Saturday Jack had the ball and I said 'Go on why not hit it long'. When he did I was shouting 'Get the thing on the deck and stop giving it back to them'
One plus side of Saturday is that I found out what that meerkat guy really hates being shouted out at football (not because I shouted it I hasten to add). We'll have to work on a song and stand next to him and sing it

Perhaps I should have carried on coaching and produced more Danny Lyes. Yes you should. He had the drive to do his best, regardless. All we want is the players to do their best.

Danny always played with his heart gave everything for the team even as a 16 year old this was evident.

With a voice back in defence we really need a midfield general while Phillips is out. Unfortunately a last minute bid to sign Lee Bowyer was unsuccessful (http://www.themaidstone.co.uk/index.html). I thought I saw a well known figure in the Spitfire, but at the time I thought it was just one of the Orcs from Middle Earth.
Come to think of it, Lee Bowyer probably has too good a disciplinary record to be a like for like replacement for MP.
