Surprised no-one's mentioned The Flower Pot - as goodun' for real ale fans!
And don't forget.......The Spitfire Lounge (when its open!) at The Gallagher Stadium.

Getting 40 extra people in the Flowerpot would be a bit of a squeeze. The landlord of the rifle Volunteers would probably have a heart attack if that many people ever walked in. Much as I dislike the Maidstone drinking barns, the Brenchley is probably best bet, or the Society Rooms if the weather is nice and an outside area is preferable.

may I recomend you visit the Brenchley Arms in the square. Never considered it as a square before. How very continental

Psychologically I can never go in The Brenchley, to me it will always be the National Provincial Bank where I held my first account. It would seem odd asking the barman for a short term loan (although in reality all my beer intake is returned fairly rapidly).

You'd never get 40 people in there, but the only decent pub in Maidstone is the Pilot in Lower Stone Street. Always several Harvey's beers on tap, and surprisingly comfortable and 'local' considering its location.

Not sure what pub to suggest to them , could be a hard to please mob if you go by the rocks fans twitter feed, they feel they shouldn't have to share a stand with the home fans and woe be tide if we start singing next to them
