Cheers Heathside. The momentum is definitely with us on this one.

How strange, I spoke to the chairman of my local club (Whyteleafe) last week and asked for his thoughts on the Dover Chairmans comments, funny how this article should then appear.

Those Conference clubs that voted against accepting 3G pitches should hang their heads in shame. We've had something like twenty matches in our division washed out in the past week alone, all of which could have gone ahead on 3G pitches, but thanks to the Luddites of the Conference no ambitious club at our level can go ahead and install a 3G pitch for fear of being refused promotion. (I'm sure MUFC must have felt the matter would be resolved before they were in a position to reach Conference South.) The FA really ought to step in overrrule this decision. After all, there must have been Conference clubs already playing on it in the FA Cup & Trophy, and if Maidstone had drawn a Football League club at home in the FA Cup presumably they would have played on it too?

Its only a matter of time think the real problem lies once again with the fa and football league who have displayed a appalling lack of vision and leadership clubs in the conf would not have any real issues if there was clear directive from the idiots at Lancaster Gate.

Remember this is a club with a coach whose brother has just left a premiership club because he couldn't organise a **ss up in a brewery! Too many old codgers in influential positions stuffing up our football.

It's good to see Pink Panther has awoken from his winter slumber with the usual passion for the non league game and intelligent comments. In fact, there has been a lot of positive comments coming from the DHFC camp, showing once again they not only play some of the most attractive football you'd see at this level, but they also remain dignified off the pitch.
What is clear is the vote had very little to do with the surface, but the common phrase I keep reading is "Maidstone knew the rules, and rules are rules"
Yes, we did know the rules, but we also gambled in order to challenge those rules (on the basis FIFA and UEFA approved them) whilst at the same time refusing to gamble on the financial stability of the club. And I reckon, pretty much any club building a new stadium would have taken the same gamble.

In most of the pro 3G articles ive read the common view is 'You can play Champions League/World Cup matches on 3G but not Conference matches'.Strange thing is though, you could play up to 10 matches at the Gallagher against these sides in the FA Cup/Trophy.Its time for the FA to step in and prove they run football in this country i say.

I agree with Pinkpanther and Southwick, This is a matter that should be addressed by the governing bodies, either FIFA, UEFA or the FA should step in and make a decision that 3G surfaces that pass the required standards are suitable for competitive football or not and the ruling should apply to all competitions rather than this half arsed situation where it depends what country or league you play in as to whether you can use them or not. Either they are suitable for competitive football or there not.

Unfortunately not. It's only allowed up to and including the 4th qualifying round, same with the FA Youth Cup. As soon as the league clubs come in it's banned, our youth team had to switch their home 1st round tie against Southend to Roots Hall. The change this year was that it is now allowed in all round of the FA Trophy.

I think the comments about the FA are spot on. For some time I've thought we should focus our attention on getting the FA to rule on it for the whole of English football. Here's what the FA rules currently say on the subject:
Field surface
Matches may be played on natural or artificial surfaces, according to the rules of the competition
The colour of artificial surfaces must be green.
Where artificial surfaces are used in either competition matches between representative teams of member associations affiliated to FIFA or international club competition matches, the surface must meet the requirements of the FIFA Quality Concept for Football Turf or the International Artificial Turf Standard, unless special dispensation is given by FIFA.
Little needs to be changed, apart from the removal of the phrase "according to the rules of the competition". The rules already have provisions for a minimum standard of artificial surface, but could be clarified further if need be. The FA has rules applicable to all competitions for pitch dimensions, markings, the goal area, flag posts, etc. There is no reason not to take the initiative and rule on the surface as well.
