Nice win for Enfield, but still stuck firmly in the mud (remember that?) at the bottom of the table.
How times have changed. I remember when the Isthmian finally agreed to feed into the Conference and the mighty Enfield came up. They had such a reputation (many England NL players, etc), that we waited in anticipation to see how they'd do. And we weren't disappointed - they were bloody impressive, quickly establishing themselves as the team to be feared, and knocking the old regulars like Altrincham and Kettering off the top. They attacked so swiftly and passed so well, it was like playing a non-league Liverpool or Man U.
At one game I remember us scoring first (way against the run of play) - it might even have been my namesake. Bloke next to me groaned and said "why did we have to go and do that, it will only upset them"! and it did - 1-3 if I remember correctly.
