Rymans South Team of the Year

Surely Watt is the bigger suprise. How can a player who only played what, 15 games, be considered in a team of the year in a 42 game league!?!?

I see we have also won team of the year for the Ryman South. Surely as Champions, that would be Dulwich? Or perhaps if a team with low expectations did extremely well, whereas we expected to win the league and didn't. Not that I'm down on the team, just seems an odd choice to me.

Maybe if you add on the cup runs and scalps from other leagues then it makes more sense

Salisbury and Whitehawk at home. Margate, Bedford away. Even beat R1N winners Grays 5-0 away (as well as R1S winners Dulwich 5-0 at home)

Now maybe I'm bias, but Ibrahim ahead of Simon Overland? Watt after 15 apperances & super-sub King in the team?

King would have been in based on his time at Folkestone as well, so not really a surprise. Steve Watt the biggest surprise as he just didn't play enough games. Was it voted for by the clubs or by a committee from the league?

Btw, I also feel Flisher & Mills would fit in any non-league squad in England quite comfortably & Osbourne is more than useful, so pleased with their inclusion.

Voted for by the team managers in our division. Therefore they only see opposition players a couple of times, plus maybe a few extra games if they watch on scouting duty.

Watt impressed me on the one occasion I saw him, as did Ibrahim. Flisher has been consistently outstanding in all games against the Hamlet over the last two seasons. The one glaring omission for me is Peter Adeniyi, who started all 42 matches for the Hamlet, the first ten or so in midfield and the rest at centre back, captained us for all but the first two games, and lifted the championship trophy at the end of it. To pick someone in the same position who played barely a third of the season is nonsense, but then if all the managers who saw Watt play voted for him I guess that's the way it works.

Simon Overland playd a season for Dulwich in 2006/7 and is an excellent keeper, so he'd have been a worthy coice, as would Hamlet's main keeper last season Phil Wilson. It's just a bit of fun really

Stunned Adeniyi isn't in the team. I missed DH at home but he ran the show in the away fixture (supposedly did the same at our place)!

I don't see how Watt can be in the team of the SEASON and neither of the 2 centre backs at Hythe are in the side. They were absolute rocks ALL season, not just from what I've seen but also from what I've heard.

Plus so many very good keepers in the league, I don't see how someone who can't get a regular spot at his club can make TOS.

Anyway moving on, 6 players from Maidstone and 3 from Dulwich. Who are the other 2?

My mistake, 4 Dulwich players (Lewis Gonsalves, Erhun Oztumer, Nyren Clunis & Daniel Carr)

I know Carr earnt himself a move to Huddersfield but I'm not sure he should make the team either. He probably only played a few more matches than Watt (as he was on trial and away all the time).

Personally, would have had Ryan Golding from Sittingbourne ahead of one of King/Carr.

Dave Cook throughly deserves to be in the there. He could comfortably play a couple of levels up from Ryman South

Danny Carr made his debut for Dulwich at the end of October, and the only league match he missed after that was at Faversham in April, when he was out injured. From memory I think he appeared in 29 league matches, so quite a lot more than Steve Watt! He didn't actually miss any league games as a result of trials at League clubs. He had a week's trial at Liverpool, maybe briefer trials at one or two others. I believe Charlton wanted to sign him, but wouldn't offer any money even though he was under contract! He waqs different class at D1S level. I don't expect to see that sort of quality in the Isthmian League again in a hurry.

As I said earlier, it's in the nature of the way the team is selected that people are judging players on only a handful of games at most, so if managers bas their choice on the games they've seen rather than whether or not those players have played in loads of other matches too, this is what we get. And it's a relatively small number of people voting; it would be more interesting if all the players got a vote, like with the PFA divisional team awards.

I find it interesting that the team is completely dominated by players from the top clubs, as it was last year. All but one playr from the top two, and the eleventh player from the 4th team, and last year it was all but one player from the top three, with the other from the 5th team.
