The only sensible post on their forum....
I've seen a few comments taking this rather flippantly and I am quite surprised. Maybe these people don't understand or appreciate the rivalry and history with Maidstone going back to the 70s and therefore don't realise the significance of the last few weeks.
In the space of just a few weeks the pendulum has swung firmly back in the direction of the c**nty town. We were a massive club in the 50s and 60s and towards the end of the 1960s we lost our way and just as we were getting our act back together Maidstone turned pro. We got promoted together 40 years ago but it was Maidstone who had the resources to challenge in the old Southern Premier, they progressed onto the Conference while we went into liquidation and lost our ground and eventually we got relegated to the Kent League on the same day they secured promotion to the Football League.
Of course they got carried away and sold their ground, spent beyond their means and they collapsed (taking Dartford with them, let's not forget) and it was only after this that the West Kent power-shift moved firmly back to Longmead, as we had a couple of good cup runs, won the Kent League and gradually progressed to a ninth place finish in Conference South. Any players heading from Tonbridge to Maidstone have been players unable to cement a place in our starting eleven. Until now.
We've had a painful season and have lost our main backer, they have got their house in order, got a fantastic 3G pitch (they are the future, fact) and are back to the highest level since they reformed. In a few short weeks they have mugged us of our two star players for god knows how much money. And charlieangel is right it is only a matter of time before more follow, including the manager.
Unless we get some serious investment into the club in the near future, then history dictates we are powerless to stop Worgan, Collin and co pulling our pants down on their way past us towards the Conference, while we are staring down the barrel at a struggle just to avoid playing Ryman Premier football with the likes of Thamesmead Town. If there are really people at the club happy with that, who want to treat this as a community centre rather than an ambitious football club, then I would suggest it goes a long way to explaining our single title win in 65 seasons and miserable record in cups.

But don't you feel so strongly that we as a club are on the rise, signing players we wouldn't have dreamed of two years ago, and of course the buzz brought by the attendance figures. I'm so excited (but not in an Pedro Almodovar way) and can't wait for the new season! ;D ;D

I thought I would take a look at the Tonbridge forum after our two recent signings from them - don't think they are happy (with us, the players or their own club) oh well roll on the new season.

Sometimes they can be bitter and twisted. A club whose supporters cant accept that we re a far bigger club despite being a league below them.

Sometimes they can be bitter and twisted. A club whose supporters cant accept that we re a far bigger club despite being a league below them. I've been enjoying their bitter rambling a all week but this one really is grasping at straws 'Is it me or do I have a feeling of deja vu concerning Maidstone. Sittingbourne went down this road 20 years ago (buy anything that moves - b****r the cost!). Look what has happened since to them. Be careful Maidstone!!' The differences between us & Sittingbourne are too many too mention but I'll try a few: >Our attendances, even when we were sharing at Bourne Park were probably over 3 times theirs >Dont think we spent anywhere near as much on our stadium as they did on Central Park (in real terms- obviously theirs was some time ago) >as far as I'm aware, apart from Stuart King, we haven't 'bought' anyone. I presume Jay has been given a budget based upon revenues which are sustainable (if we've sold 400 plus season tickets we've probably already taken close on what the Mangles will take all season without anyone paying on the gate, let alone other purchases whilst at the games). This has nothing to do with splashing the cash but is to do with fulfilling our potential. If we were a Whitehawk type club spending this sort of money they'd have a point ( & perhaps they should be more concerned about them this season) but we're not! Anyway I have a real feeling that we could be playing them next year, & if we're not its because they've been relegated ;D

Are we splashing the cash? Lee Worgan said he took a pay cut to come here and Frannie said he's getting no more than he would have got at Tonbridge. Of course mangles don't believe a word of what either of them say and a couple of them claim to know our budget. Just a bunch of bitter chav scum.

Are we splashing the cash? Don't know, but my point is that even if we are, in relative terms, it is because we can afford it, not because someone is pumping money into the club. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to work out that if an average of 1700 are turning up every week you will have more revenue than if 500 come through the gates!

When Shaun Welford was approached by Hythe he was surprised by what they were offering which by definition suggests they were willing to pay him more than us.
Even if our budget is bigger than most other teams in the Ryman League then as long as we aren't over spending then I am happy with the position of the club.
I am sure Oliver, Terry and Bill (and Jay) are all too aware of past mistakes but to put us on the same level as Sittingbourne is just a little confusing.
Frannie Collin attracted interest from no less than 6 clubs, Whitehawk included, I can't believe we were willing to pay the most and perhaps he just wanted to play in front of bigger crowds for the same money. Frannie isn't too amused by the reactions of the fans of his previous club at his departure.
It is a shame things didn't work out for Stuart King but would like to remember him for the brilliance he brought and the goals he scored. I hope he wins the golden boot next year but I would be surprised to see any Angels fans wishing the same for our new striker

As a tonbridge fan just dipping in for a look , i wish him well over there . I expect he'll score lots of goals , but it's not the move to the football league he was hoping for . First time i'd heard his interview on the website , if you go up a league enjoy him while you can because it doesn't sound like he's keen on travelling to away games . I hope he gets his mojo back because last season Warrilow really annoyed him by dropping him for a lesser player and in the end i wasn't surprised he went . We will see on the 25th how far you have come . Personally i thought we got the better deal when we had Craig Wilkins Have a beautiful season xx oh i see NWS is alive and well , alright there cocker ?

Strange, your forum seem to think he didn't want the move to the football league...strange but is backed up by your contradicting comment about travelling to away games

theres a huge difference travelling as a part time player who has to get up for work / take the afternoon off work for away matches and a full time player who has the luxury of overnight accomodation and afternoons off from training probably he dreamt of playing for tonbridge or maidstone or dover or whatever crap club and being a plasterer well he's leaving the dream now isn't he he'd much prefer that than playing proper football at Gillingham
