It boils down to simple communication. He just doesn't talk to his defenders enough. He is also poor when organising set pieces. Great shot stopper, lightning reflexes and decent distribution, but a good keeper needs the basics as well. Bit of a bugger that we finally scored more than one goal, only to let in three... He is a great shot stopper but how many times does he parry the ball back into the danger area? Exactly - that's his weakness. And that's why his cock-ups nearly always result in a goal.

Mind you, Covolan has let in more at Braintree...

Reports from my 3 mates who attended the match, sounds like 'another' pretty good performance. Overall, 2 points dropped, rather than one gained, despite the late equaliser. Def had the best of possession, controlled the game for longish periods, moved the ball around well. Bath only had occasional sorties into the Stones box, but disappointing we looked vulnerable at these times. Questions continue over the quality of keeping. Still, overall a decent effort, much better than last Saturday.

Very true. The goals against record per match for both team is almost the same.

A good point if we follow it up with home wins.

Sorry Nick, but there lies the problem - we've had 8 decent results (draws) this season.
50% of the 16 games played - no surprise we are the team with most draws in NLS/NLN and NL
Simple maths lesson for George - far better to win 3 and lose 5, than be unbeaten with 8 draws
As I have said before, you win leagues by scoring goals, not keeping clean sheets
Roll the dice George - entertain us

That can work against better teams (see the FA Cup) but it stifles us against less strong but organised sides and makes us easy to play against (see Weston, Truro, Chelmsford, Hampton, last night, even Herne Bay) Blair & Shaq were a good pair for Braintree last season but he never plays them together he also makes predictable and late substitutions - why not leave Bentley & Coulthirst on last night? let them loose man!

I guess George's football career as a defender will have contributed towards the type of player he recruits and how the team is set up. But it's still early days for him, he's learning. Cautious or not we conceded 3 last night, 2 of them very avoidable. Improvement is still needed at both ends of the pitch, George knows that better than most. We are the league's draw specialist, its a fact. Obvious that looking forward, we need to convert some of those to wins.

Our record (league) since Chelmsford: WDWDWDWDD
Most clubs would be more than happy with that, but 5 draws out of nine games is 10 points lost - easily enough to make the difference between the play-offs and a mid-table finish.
Until now, our weakness seemed fairly obvious - lack of goals. Just one extra in each of those five drawn games would have put us 2nd, and just three goals would put us comfortably in the play-offs.
But last night emphasised the fact that it's not quite that simple - we also have a problem in defence.
And that's not just a temporary thing, it's a trend that's been there all season. Our inability to score that extra goal to save the game, has disguised the fact that we shouldn't need to score that goal - if we didn't nearly always ship one that we should have been able to keep out.
And that goal is quite often a mix up between defence and goalie, or simply a goalkeeper error.
I've had my doubts about Andre from the beginning, and, although he seemed to improve, he is still prone to basic GK errors - and unfortunately, ones that frequently cost us 2 points.
Perhaps it's not only at the front that we need to bring in new players?

We need a new goalie, a new Paxman/Benton type player to make things tick and a striker to support Blair.
Now is the stage of the season we need to bring those in, if we really do want to challenge for promotion. However, our owners don’t want that, so I suspect it will be more of the same, with a few random loan signings we will never see again if they perform well.
