Just compared our start with the first 14 games last season, and was rather surprised.
My guess before I did this was that last season's stats would look a lot better, but they are actually pretty close. We have won one fewer and lost one more, and we've also scored three fewer goals (although we've only conceded one more). But, over 14 games (more than a quarter of a season), that isn't really much of a difference. It certainly doesn't justify the difference in places (15th v 8th), and it puts the worries about goal scoring (mine included!) into perspective.
season W D L Pts F A GD place
2023/4 6 6 2 24 19 13 6 8th
2024/5 5 6 3 21 16 14 2 15th
As for goal scorers, that's a bit of a surprise too:
2023/24: Amantchi 8, Wanjau-Smith 3 (1p), Coleman De-Graft 2, Bone 2, others 4 (Greenidge, Corne, Sole, Kelly)
2024/25: Blair 7, Eweka 3, Others 6 (Greenidge, Corne, Bentley, Coulthirst, Seaman, Benton)
Of course, 14 games does not a season make, etc, etc - but those first 14 last season were actually pretty typical of the whole season (an average of 1.7 points per game, compared to 1.8 for the full season), so I think it's a fair comparison. And, although we're not scoring as many goals from the rest of the team, to my surprise Blair is only one behind Amantchi.
So, definitely no reason for Old Boy-style PANIC.

One detail is different, though - by this point last season, we had played NINE aways and only 3 at home (remember the 4 aways on the trot in August?!)
Whereas this season the figures are 8 H and 6 A.
Make of that what you will!

One thing is the same ... Our resident statto, jdl, is still banging out meaningless stats ! Only joking jdl, I actually enjoy reading them, although some are more interesting and relevant than others. One thing I would say regarding this season compared to last is that we have had tougher fixtures in the opening months this one imho. After Tuesday we will have already played the three other bookies favourites for promotion (at start of season) away from home. Maybe a reason to be positive for the remainder of the season?

Game for game against last season's opponents (or substituted side in the case of promotions & relegations) we are currently eight points down on the games played last season. We are 10 points down on home results, hopefully if confidence increases at home - and the crowd remains supportive - that will get no worse or even improve. maidstoneunitedfc.proboards.com/thread/10072/improving-on-last-season-matchWorth pointing out too that league position wise, 11 of the 15 clubs above us have played at least two - and in five cases - three more games than us.

But it hasn't stopped some Facebook supporters calling for George's head, decrying both the team's performance levels and style of football. Some think only a flukey cup run saved him last season. 100% don't agree myself. I do think this forum tends to be less critical than Facebook. No way would other supporters be leaping in to challenge posts that titled a player 'Ludicrous', following some desperately poor outings. They would have wallowed in it and some more. It is blunter and harsher in comparison.

George made a lot of improvements on the management side especially recruitment and training. I would suggest he is the most professional manager we have had and he just needs to now become the most successful. If he achieves the success the down side is that he will be in demand and as an ambitious man we will lose him.

We are a player or two away from a team that other clubs will dread playing. If (when) George finds that player, we will hit our stride and this season's Championship is there for the taking (although I still have the same doubts I've always had about succeeding in the NL without a money man...).
What worried me was that we would be starting from a bad place, having 'wasted' our early games (which is what it sometimes felt like). The importance of my stats is that they show that we haven't done that at all, we are actually placed very well to break away and climb the table.
All we need is that elusive 'extra player or two'...

George found that extra player or two last season with some good loanees and that’s what saw us climb up the table. Can he do it again? It’s weird how the two seasons - FA Cup run aside - are repeating themselves - so far.
