I am surprised nobody has mentioned this yet.
Personally, and especially because of what we achieved this season, I think the club should put out a strongly worded statement and threaten to pull out of the competition next season. If all non-league clubs done the same then the FA do not have the 'greatest cup competition in the world'
It's an absolute disgrace that the whole of the football pyramid have to pander to 6 teams, who can frankly piss off to a super league and let the rest of us get on with it.

Pull out of the competition? The F A would love that in fact they'd prefer just EFL upwards. This is the Premier Leagues doing and the FA Kowtow to them. There is an upside to this if we drew Man City away and got a draw then the chances of City holding the mighty Stones a second time are slim and so under new rules Man City would have a chance of progressing on penalties.

Oddly enough I suggested on a Championship bookface page that the whole of the EFL should refuse to enter. Just have non-league qualifiers from the early rounds and 20 PL clubs in the third round. That would seriously hit the FA as the tv broadcasters would have close to zero interest in the first two rounds, and certainly wouldn't pay as much for broadcast rights.

I'd be happy for us to pull out, despite the enjoyment of this season. Sometimes you just have to stick to a principle

I can't get too wound up about this. It was inevitable - the writing has been on the wall for ages. All competitions are gradually going extra time + pens - financial and fixture congestion pressure inevitably leads to this result.
I'm more worried about the shift of power in English football from the FA to the PL. Again, this was inevitable (and rather ironic, considering it was the FA who created the PL), but this power imbalance is critical - it affects the whole game, so this needs to be sorted out. Individual competitions (leagues) can set any rules they like, but the FA should be supreme - otherwise where's it going to end up?
Sure, money talks, but there comes a point where the structure, governance, and very nature of the game is under threat. It doesn't matter how much bloody money a league or a club makes, the FA has to remain the ultimate - and unchallenged - authority. Otherwise it's anarchy. Cricket, boxing and motor racing (at least) have all gone down this route, and, I think, are lesser for it.
Very worrying too (although no surprise) that the NL seem to have the same mindset as the PL.

What is difficult to understand is if as the FA statement opines it is to ease pressure on the teams in European competition then why not have replays in at least the first 2 rounds of the FA Cup?

Why not throw them out of the FA cup and leave the format alone after all most prem teams no longer take the cup seriously and 99% of non league clubs have been eliminated before the big boys reserves even enter.

Playing devil’s advocate for a moment. During the cup run, didn’t we just want to progress? If you’re Isthmian United and you’ve just fluked a draw against Premier City, wouldn’t you have more chance of progressing via penalties than a replay where the big team will put out their better players and kill you off? Would have to recheck the figures, but we probably made several times more from prize money and progressing to the next lucrative TV payment than we did from £10 a head at Ipswich. Supporters at that level won’t pay normal prices to watch little old Maidstone.

Mixed feelings about this. The whole point of a knockout competition is just that - a one off tie with all the jeopardy that involves. Hanging on for draw is no longer possible, except that hanging on for penalties will probably become an even greater objective. Perhaps the FA should cut out the crap and just make the FA cup a penalty shoot out competition? The whole thing could take place in a single day, with everyone going to Wembley.🥴 There is no doubt that cup replays clog up the fixture list, but then so do pointless competitions like the KSC and the current host of 'league cup' ties with PL U23 teams playing FL clubs. The seasons just get longer and longer. Fixtures used to be just Saturday and either Tuesday or Wednesday. Now they are seven days a week, anytime from midday to well after 10pm. All because of TV money, which ultimately waters down the whole experience.

Let’s face it, the FA is to all intents and purposes run by the premier league and does everything the premier league demands. Reading the latest statement from the FA, the whole efl gets the same number of votes as the premier league and non-league is totally unrepresented. How can they claim to run the game when the vast majority of clubs don’t have a say.

I think this latest move by the FA & PREMIER LEAGUE just shows how corrupt the two are. In my opinion I find it hard not to beleive that a few little brown envelopes pass under the table from PL to FA

We had long ties against Kidderminster and Southwick back in the 1980's.
