With two of the retained list as yet unproven (Court and Smith), that leaves just nine as starters for next season. While ok with these, it means we are looking for more than a few newcomers, plus replacing any of those offered new terms who decide they (or their agents) fancy somewhere else. At our level, it seems pretty cut throat, with not much thought about stability. Disappointing, when we've heard all season about how 'together' the squad have been. Truth is, as already mentioned, far too much of it is about money. Understandable, I suppose, when careers are short, but I wonder if the amounts involved are really life changing? Opportunities, yes, but a few grand to waste a season or two on the sidelines at (say) Bromley (not just Levi) has to be questionable if you really enjoy playing football. Spending all that time staying fit just to be a bench warmer can't be much fun. It's basically all about money. As fans, we may worry about loyalty, love of the badge, and all that. But it's basically bollocks. The men we watch week in, week out, giving their all for us on the pitch, have to eat and pay the rent, just like the rest of us. Without 'us' paying them, they simply wouldn't do it. If you want football without money, go down to Mote Park at the weekends. But that isn't to say that squads can't be genuinely 'together' or that players don't care about the club or the fans - while they are with us. Psychology is critical in football, players have to believe in the team and the club to get the energy to play at their best. When a player kisses the badge or applauds the supporters, he isn't acting, in that moment, he believes in what he is doing, he feels the same things we feel. No one who saw the devastation of the players at Worthing last week could think they didn't believe in that game and the club as much as we do. You can't watch a 19 year-old in tears because his dream has just been cruelly snatched away from him and think that he doesn't care - despite the fact that he's only on loan, you probably won't see him in black and amber again and he'll be feeling the same way for a different club next season. Making a move for more money, playing for different clubs, etc and genuinely caring about the club and the fans aren't mutually exclusive. It's just the reality of professional football - fate dictates where you are, not choice. We don't think Rush should have stayed at Aveley out of loyalty, or worry about how H&W are going to survive without Faal, so why should we be bothered if Amantchi goes to Bromley 'just' for more money.

Amen to the above, but still doesn't change the fact I find it a bit disappointing. Would like to think that players joined us because they saw opportunities. If they move on for the same reason, fine. Having a mass clear out every season? Not so sure.

Someone on the facebook group seems to think we might be signing Temi Eweka.
Centre half from Slough who just announced hes leaving because he wants to play full time.

Being shown around the Gallagher stadium may possibly count as a positive sign. But was it Temi ?

If some are right about Earle, then expect to see him in the National League next season. Assuming you’re right he’ll be a bench warmer at best. I’d expect him to drop a level to guarantee games. No one wants to spend their whole career watching from the sidelines. Not only knows what we should think but knows what the players are thinking, amazing 😉

Bumped into Sam Bone in town. He said he was surprised by the decision to release him.
He said he would take a holiday and think about his next steps.
He said he would find it difficult to play for another club against Maidstone as the club means a lot to him.

Liam Sole signs for Livingston the Scotch team Was one I said we needed to keep, obviously he would never stay when a Premiership team came in for him. Good luck to him.

wonder if the thing with Sam bone is that George doesn’t fancy him in midfield (common consensus on here is he’s better in defence) - but you’d imagine Sam wants to play in his preferred position. You’d imagine that they have conversations throughout the season about this that’s lead to the decision
