Can never remember whether it is two fs or three... Anyway, the return leg of our local(ish) derby over the water. We are finally relegated, so the pressure is off, Southend have their own major problems and the weather is set fair. What could possibly go wrong? Hmm - well, for starters, Southend were one of the best sides to visit the Gallagher this season. Fast, skillful, mobile and VERY well supported. First time I can remember the Genco End being out shouted, though being well beaten didn't help. Given what BW did to our defence on Saturday, if Southend play like they did last time, it could get embarrassing. George appears to be tinkering with the few resources available to him in the hope of finding a formula and results clearly don't matter now, but what of the opposition? They sit two places from the play offs, but eight points shy, so with six games to go, they will at best be in the NL next season, assuming they don't fold that is. Recent fixtures show the reason for their decline, losing all six games in March. The rot was stopped at Yeovil on Saturday however, which doesn't exactly bode well for Maidstone. Oh well - which reminds me of that Fleetwood Mac song on the same title: "Can't help about the shape I'm in, can't sing (play?), ain't pretty and my legs are thin. But don't ask me what I think of you - you might not get the answer that you want me to... A song for our times, perhaps?🥴🤫☹️😤🥱😠

As I have just posted on the Chesterfield 5.30 thread and I quote myself “National league board total incompetent.”

No, definitely Fleetwood Mac, during the Peter Green era.

The song is "oh well" by the original Fleetwood mac line up. Released in 1969(I think).

Some strange memories of Roots Hall and Vic (hand)Jobson. The id card fiasco springs to mind. I never bothered but still gained admittance to the game where my friend and I had our own personal coppers as I was deemed to be one of the generals of the notorious Maidstone hooligan element which thankfully never existed outside of Jobson's warped mind.

The song is "oh well" by the original Fleetwood mac line up. Released in 1969(I think). Almost the original lineup - but arguably the best 'original' lineup. Genius Green and the new young guitar player riffing off each other - one of THOSE moments. For any yoof reading this, this is the real FM, not that shite pop band they so sadly morphed into.

I saw them play live in the late 60s on Morecambe Pier(since demolished). This was the great British Blues era & I also saw Cream, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Chicken Shack, Ten Years After, Deep Purple & many others. Great times.
Not British but living in Halifax in the late 60s, Champion Jack Dupree...

Being a little unfair there jdl they are responsible for some cracking songs with the exception of Diane.

Anyway,Sarfend away. I have plumped for a draw because they are struggling as well at the moment and are there for the taking but I don't think we are good enough to claim the win. New signing for next season Sam Bone will be stretchered off with an injury that will keep him out until Xmas . Mersin in goal will be motm putting in a powerhouse goalkeeping display to earn a contract for next season. Shonibare will score before being sent off for fighting with unknown Sarfend centre back who will also do the walk of shame. Terry and Oliver will join in the chorus of sack the board whilst Bill will be knocking back the free drinks in posh nobs bar. The sun will shine,it'll be warm and a great day by the seaside but alas I cannot make this one if it had been tomorrow I'd have been there. PS our little green street boys will take a kicking from Sarfends Football factory veterans.

Not a patch on real British rhythm and blues.

The original band was Green's creation - without him it was nothing.

A win there would be nice - a little revenge for their behaviour when we were promoted to the FL. But I can't see it - I've seen nothing in recent games that suggest we can ever win a match in the NL again.
Given a different season, I'd have been there - despite living in Essex for years, I've never been to RH. But the way things are, I probably won't even bother to listen to SL. And, personally, I couldn't give a toss if this turns out to be one of the last games Southend ever play. It's about time football clubs who 'succeed' by building up massive debts got their comeuppance. Never has the phrase 'level playing field' been more appropriate.
