I’m usually pretty measured on here but not today… What an absolute Joke if this is not based around his injury! If he was likely to make a full recovery I just don’t understand this decision. Not proven at NL level yes but NLS he was by far our best player. Since the takeover fell through the whole feeling of the club has just gone down and down. George better recruit bloody well in the off season.

I’d imagine his recovery is not going as well as hoped. If we have a reduced budget anyway, we don’t want to start the new season with injured players again. No matter how talented.
He will go down in recent history for last season. What a great player to watch. Some of my favourite goals. Shame it has had to end like this.

This strikes me as a combination of two things. 1.The injury is worse than we feared and they do not believe he can be effective next season. 2. The budget has been slashed.

If the decision is based purely on his long term absence then the club should be fair and release all the others who have been out for extended periods or their action could be misconstrued as victimization. We as a club also have to decide what contracts to give next year as the new contracts endorsed by the league and FA mean that any long term injury to a player will result in 12 weeks full pay before they are put on SSP. We as a club can opt out of this but will we.

F##k this shit, what a joke.
The club better come out and give a decent reason for this, but as usual this club can't do f##k all when it comes to informing the fans on important matters.
Don't worry though, we'll get a bullshit video on training where we see the staff and players joking around.
What garbage it has become in such a short time.

Ripping the heart out of the club. Luque was part of the fanbase more than any other player. When he could not play, it hurt him. When he could play, he was superb.
This makes no sense on a sporting or business level. Luque was part of the brand, his charisma showing off the club.
They've found a way to make this season more miserable. Quite some feat.

The decent reason is he isn't in George's plans. He is clearly a good player at NLS level so the doubt he will come back the same player is obviously it - and whether we would be willing to "waste" budget on him. It's logical if not a little cold. I am sure the decision would have been made knowing the reaction it would get from the fans and also with the best knowledge of Joan's condition. The easy thing to do would be to give him a new contract.

Very sad to see Luque go. Who can forget his little ruffle of the right backs hair when he scored after 20 mins even though the rightback was gonna have him in his pocket or that beautiful goal at Bath. An absolute joy of a player to watch. Best of luck to him

We have been paying him north of £500 a week (probably) to watch - so on a business level it makes sense and also on a sporting level. In fact they are the two levels it DOES make sense.

Sorry have to disagree I want a club I can be proud of that treats people the right way, after Georges retirement match i regained confidence we had one, not after this last move in a long list of own goals this year, could of at least offered him a six month deal with an option to extend if its in both parties interest.

No need to apologise. If he were looking likely to be fit and recovering well, then this would be my preference. I can only assume it is not the case though. It would be the perfect footballing decision. Now whether Luque could take 6 month contract - who knows. If he has a mortgage etc, maybe he wouldn’t want the uncertainty. He signed his current contract at the height of this powers so a pay cut would be sensible / a necessity, especially as we are relegated.. You wouldn’t pay him to be a top earner at the club with the risk that come with it, would you?

1. Thanks Joan for everything you did for us.
2. It’s lonely at the top. George will have many difficult decisions to make.
3. We don’t know yet what medical factors caused this.
