Nice find, barney - if only they could update the PA system at the same time!

My house was under the flight (or should that he fright) path for the warbirds show at West malling airfield. One year we had concorde, another year it was a Vulcan bomber - that bugger shook the house. It had had honour flight of spitfires and hurricanes which were tiny in comparison. Way back in 1970, I was lying on the school field, having just taken my last O level, when a whole flight of Vulcans came over! They were flying so low, we had no warning - one minute, nice quiet, sunny afternoon, the next WTF?! I knew nothing of Vulcans, so to me they were like something out of the future that had just appeared in the sky. My memory is fucked, so I can't say how many of them there were, but it seemed like 5 (or possibly 7), plus two or three smaller jets. One of the Vulcans was slightly out of formation and was putting out a fair bit of darker smoke. After the planes had flown over, there was dead quiet for a few seconds, as we tried to digest what we'd just seen. All totally unexpected and unreal - one of the strangest moments of my life - up there with the day I looked out of my office window in Chatham and saw the Radio Caroline ship sailing past! I was watching Romulus v Uttoxeter in the Midlands league when the Vulcans flew over, the pointy eared little fuckers shit themselves and ran off to the changing room.

I was looking at Scottish football the other day (as you do...), and only then discovered how close Dundee and Dundee United's grounds are to each other (on the same street, just 100m apart!) Are these the closest two senior club grounds in the UK/Europe/world? (Excluding second stadiums, like in Barcelona.)

Not sure what you mean by “second stadiums” but according to a web page I found “Only the grounds of two clubs in Budapest, MTK and BKV Elore, are closer together than Dens and Tannadice in the whole of Europe”

Filling in the corners before you've got the corners!

Not sure what you mean by “second stadiums” but according to a web page I found “Only the grounds of two clubs in Budapest, MTK and BKV Elore, are closer together than Dens and Tannadice in the whole of Europe” You're right, they are literally next door to each other, separated only my a narrow road. And as a 'part-time' Hungarian, I really should have known that! The reason I didn't is that it never occurred to me that the 'field' next to the Hidegkuti Nándor stadion was anything more than part of MTK's training facilities! But it is apparently a 'proper' football stadium, with a capacity of 2,500. Really hard to believe! But it certainly beats the Dundee situation... By 'second stadium', I meant things like Barcelona, where I thought they had another stadium next door, which was used by the reserves, but was actually a pretty decent stadium - better than many club's 1st team grounds. I say "I thought" because, up to this moment, I could have sworn this is what I saw when I visited Camp Nou 20 odd years ago - but, checking Google maps, it doesn't seem to exist!! There is a pitch just over the road, but it looks nothing like the map I saw when we were looking round the stadium. I am starting to doubt my memory completely.

At a stretch, Welling United and Erith & Belvedere.
On our last visit, Welling fans were worried we would be using the facilities owned by E & B, and were talking about having stewards stopping us enter.
Not sure who owns what there these days.

Blackpool Wren rovers and Squires Gate fc are next door to each other and AFC Blackpool is a further 150 yards down the road and I've been to all three as well as both Dundee grounds😁

If my memory serves back in the 60's at least, Notts County and Nottinghamshire Cricket Club played at Trent Bridge. The football pitch had stands on three sides. The other side adjoined the cricket pitch.

Sheffield United and Northampton Town both used to share with cricket grounds. Must be some non league clubs who still do.
