Is very poor. I watched Herne Bay lose 2-1 there tonight (goals from Jay May and Ter Horst). The bounce is slow the roll of the ball seems to vary. Ashford play a long ball game to counteract it. Poor old Herne Bay struggled to pass it around. You could see players taking three or four touches to control the ball. Who laid it? Bob the Builder?

Didn't they lay it themselves and cock it up completely, so that it had to be re-laid?
Probably the problem is not the way the grass was laid, but the quality of the surface underneath, and I suspect they didn’t dig that up and redo it.
Expensive things, 3G pitches – can’t be done on the cheap.

I thought Herne Bay were the better footballing team, but Ashford dug deep (nothing to do with the pitch) when they lost Tommy Fagg (the best player on the pitch) to a second yellow. Furthermore, the bar doesn't stock any proper beer, even in bottles (they used to); on the plus side, I was able to get a half portion of chips at half price. And they produce a good programme. An excellent crowd of 320 bolstered by several travellers (I mean HB-ites). And I didn't see nws there. Overall a good evening out.

I was with the travelling support behind the goal. I thought HB paid the price for trying to play on the floor on that pitch. Didn't press enough when the Ashford player was sent off. Most frustrating. My win hoodoo continues!

Subsequently relaid at great expense but seemingly no a lot better by all accounts.

PBB was behind me in the bar - from the programme notes he seems to be in charge of commercial stuff. Horses for courses, eh!
