Tuesday 10th August, Larkfield & New Hythe 2 - 0 Faversham Strike Force - Taray Group Community Stadium, Larkfield.
First ever visit last night to the Taray Group Community Stadium. Bad start, as confusion over the drivers chosen route lead to a brief bout of swearing and uncertainty, but New Hythe Lane duly located. Efficient Stewarding, but directed to park in an already full car park ( more swearing ). Walking into the ground, really impressed, new, neat and tidy. Fine club house, van pumping out fast food, ground well set with neat white fencing and hard standing. Crowd of 232 in attendance, admission £ 5 - giving it away. Game started, Larks immediately on top and took the lead on 19 minutes following a soft penalty ( given maybe after an accumulation of niggly Faversham tackles ). Anyway, well put away by Byron Walker for Larks, the # 10 who looked a class above this level throughout. As the half wore on this developed into a feisty & ill tempered affair, with both sides willing to mix it up. On 34 minutes a ruck near the benches with plenty of elbows lead to two yellows from the ref, who did well in the game, with lots of preaching rather than wholesale use of cards. Throughout this, some skill shone through, my notes refer to a sublime flick from the Larks # 9 near the end of the half. H/T 1 - 0 Larks. Second half saw Faversham start much more in the game, but their approach play and finishing was frankly woeful and inaccurate. On 53 Larks went 2 - 0 up, a cross from deep on the right being turned in by Charlie Smith, the hard working # 9. Notes then refer to the increasingly bad tempered nature of the game, 56 minutes scuffle by away bench, 70 minutes Faversham Keeper impeded when taking a quick goal kick, another scuffle / push & shove. On 79 the inevitable happened, and Larks went down to 10 men following a second yellow. Despite this, and 5 minutes stoppage, Faversham couldn't find a way through, and it ends 2 - 0 Larks.
Really good to see ex Stone Ben Davisson playing at # 8 for Larks. Slightly wider than with us, but now a good talker still with a decent eye for a pass, playing a bit deeper these days. Lewis Mingle ( # 5 ) was good at the back for Larks as well. Felt a bit sorry for Faversham, their Keeper impressed me, a good talker and organiser.
Catch some photos and impressions of the game / ground on twitter ( follow Tony Incenzo - a good guy to follow in any case ).
