"All we have of Barry’s era are memories and newspaper cuttings, meaning he can attend games at JWW with only a handful of people knowing who he is and the contribution he made. This man deserves more recognition. Even if he lives to be 100, Jay is unlikely to have this problem."

Prescient! "Terry Casey looked bizarrely overjoyed for a man who’s chequebook was going to take a bit of a battering over the coming months."

The odd thing is that that's the moment when 'it all went wrong'.
Without that save, we'd have spent the last four seasons in the NS, still part-time, still getting decent gates, dreaming of promotion each year, and having our dreams cruelly crushed each year - and eternally moaning about jammy Websfeet, shitty refs, typical Maidstone luck, etc.
But we'd have been happy!

Naaah. It was worth it.

It was, it was one of the top five (probably) best games/results of my lengthy career following the Stones.

It was, it was one of the top five (probably) best games/results of my lengthy career following the Stones. The first goal at Watford, The 'promotion' KSC final at Priestfield, seeing Bill holding the Conference trophy at Runcorn, Worgan's save at Northfleet, my first game at JWW, knocking Gills out of the Cup, our first 'home' Div 4 game, beating Gills in the league, the Stevenage Cup game, the '3 in 4' run, our first game in the NL... There are so many, it's difficult to pick even a top five (although Worgan's save must be in there). Good to remember all those at the moment. But that's football, most seasons are just so-so, some are dreadful, but the great moment keep you going through the bad patches. And, of course, the knowledge that there's more to come...

When clubs come out of the current crisis there might be some sanity returned to NL..no more silly wages just good players enjoying their football on top of their day job. I still hope Stones return to part time as I believe this would be best for the supporters and the club.

If NL means awaydays behind cages at Dover etc etc, I'm not that bothered about going so much.

Yes Adrian I think some good will come out of all of this. Even at the top level as Sky reduces money to the PL clubs as subscribers cancel in the current chaos etc. We need a return to proper NL football.. !

It was, it was one of the top five (probably) best games/results of my lengthy career following the Stones. It was certainly the most dramatic. For tension I can't think of many that come close, Folkestone away in 2008 maybe, but that was a different kind of tension.

I just sang songs on rotation to keep us noisy not nervy. Bert Roser's goalline clearance still leaves me pooping now...not a good place to be in the new non-toilet roll time!
