Maybe the most telling phrase in this is ' we can't offer you a contract ' , clearly budgetary controls being strictly applied ….

Hopefully we can shake off Lewis Knight, Kyei, Kamdjo and Allen but the fact they’ve been advertised as up for grabs and no ones made an approach is fairly damning! If we can, and in the meantime he wants to play for us to prove he is up to it, and at the end gets a contract all the better, as we sadly didn’t have that luxury with the above players

I cannot see these players leaving for less money.

Nobody in the division above is going to want our cast-off's - some of the part-time teams in NLS probably would if they'd accept a part-time wage but the players are unlikely to do so.

Excellent point. Yet another one of those catch-22 situations we find ourselves in at this level. But, perhaps we shouldn't offer contracts so early as well? A probationary period would be better - say 3 months. Same wages, etc during probatiionary period, but contract at the end only if they prove themselves. Otherwise, goodbye and thank you for the fish. Or would that mean we only get the desperate players?

Take Sadiou Khan, if he was only on a 3 month contract and a football league club signed him in January then the club would get nothing. Like John Still said a the beginning of the summer some will work out, some will not. At the end of the day we as fans don't know what contract all the players are on. All I know is John Still has said that he is happy with all the contracts that the players are on. So we have to trust him.

Maybe the most telling phrase in this is ' we can't offer you a contract ' , clearly budgetary controls being strictly applied …. We have several players we aren't even picking so they need to be removed from the wage bill before any further additions. Why this chap came on before Nana at the weekend, is a mystery. Hope we can put together a settled squad for the second half of the season. Who do we have out on loan at the moment? are we paying them or part of their wages?

Next summer will be interesting. With contracts expiring, will we carefully improve on what we have, or dismantle and rebuild the whole thing again from scratch? Some better players may move on and reject offers.

Some better players may move on and reject offers. Not necessarily John Still said at the supporters evening at the beginning of the season that the players he wanted to form part of the squad were on 1 year contracts with an option of a second year. Off course that does depend what division we are in. Each player has a value. So what that means is that if any club came in for a player they would have to meet our clubs valuation of the player plus pay up the second year option as well. This will hopefully avoid another Joe Pigott situation and the club then being able then to reinvest the profits back into the playing squad.
